The PGA Tour returns to PGA National for the event formerly known as the Honda Classic as we make our best Cognizant Classic picks based on the golf odds from our best golf betting sites.

Rory McIlroy last won the Honda Classic in 2012 but that's not preventing him from being a heavy betting favorite for the 2024 Cognizant Classic as he tees it up at PGA National for the first time since 2018 as the top-ranked golfer in the field.

Chris Kirk is the defending champion of this event, but he returns with longer odds than he carried before his comeback victory a year ago, even though he already has a win in a signature event this season.

Part of the reason for those lengthened odds is the presence of McIlroy in the Cognizant Classic field, as the No. 2 golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) will be a popular pick this week.

Here are our best Cognizant Classic picks based on the PGA Tour odds from our best sports betting sites.

Cognizant Classic pick to win

Corey Conners

Best odds: +4500 via Caesars

Conners will look to be the second Canadian to win on the PGA Tour in the last four weeks and follow in the footsteps of Nick Taylor's victory in the WM Phoenix Open.

After entering 2024 at No. 35 in the OWGR, Conners has slipped to No. 49 and enters the week as the third-best Canadian by the metric. The three are in a heated race for the two spots that'll make up Canada's Olympic golf team this summer.

While he hasn't missed a cut through five events, his T-24 finish in the Genesis Invitational was his best result thus far.

Conners ranked 11th on the PGA Tour last year in birdie-or-better percentage from this week's key distance of 150-175 yards. His current form also matches up very well for PGA National - a course he'll play for the first time since 2020. Conners is among the field leaders in strokes gained: tee-to-green, SG: off-the-tee, and SG: approach across his last 15 measured rounds, while showing excellent accuracy with his driver.

Conners' two PGA Tour wins were both in April's Valero Texas Open, but he routinely enters his best form at this time of year.

Cognizant Classic prop picks

Doug Ghim to finish top 20

Best odds: +275 via BetMGM

Ghim skipped the 2023 Honda Classic after three straight missed cuts in the event. However, his current form is that of a completely different golfer and the odds aren't reflective of his present skillset.

Ghim is up to a career-best 147th in the OWGR with three straight top-15 finishes, including last week's T-8 in the Mexico Open at Vidanta. He ranked fifth among all golfers who made the cut with 1.41 strokes gained: approach and 1.93 SG: tee-to-green. Those have been his strengths over his last 12 measured rounds - ranking 10th and third, respectively, in this field - and those are the key stats for PGA National.

The 27-year-old American has been slightly less impressive off the tee of late but that's largely due to a lack of distance. His accuracy has been strong through his last three events, and that's the most important aspect for his driver at this venue.

Carson Young to finish top 30

Best odds: +250 via bet365

Young enters this week off of a T-8 finish in the Mexico Open. He'll look to follow up on a T-29 finish in last year's event at PGA National after an excellent showing with his irons last week. He'll need to rely heavily on that aspect of his game once again.

His irons were his weakness in last year's Honda Classic, while he gained 1.04 strokes per round with his putter on these Bermuda greens. We're counting on that familiarity with the greens of this venue combining with his improved iron play to simply help him replicate last year's result in this event.

How to bet on golf

Betting on golf involves understanding the various types of bets available and how to assess player performance. First, familiarize yourself with the different types of bets commonly offered in golf, including outright winner bets, each-way bets (which cover both a win and a top finish), head-to-head matchups between two players, and proposition bets on specific events within a tournament, such as hole-in-one occurrences or individual player performances on certain holes.

Once you've identified the types of bets you're interested in, research the players, course conditions, recent form, and other relevant factors that could influence outcomes. Pay attention to factors like player statistics, recent tournament performances, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that may affect a player's performance.
