If he doesn't play that side correctly he will end up with an unbalanced edge. I think you are probably right about this. I taught my nephew how to play Othello/Reversi in early 2007 before Hexversi came out. By the time Hexversi came out he was already good at Reversi so I never went over specific Hexversi strategy with him because the game was new to both of us at the time and I didn't know that it would be my new favorite. So... yeah... most of the stuff in this thread I've never really talked about to anyone.
