Whats funny is that if you resurrected someone from the 12th century they would be a complete ignoramus in all discourse EXCEPT religion. He would have pretty much the same beliefs as you about our origins yet he would be a retard by todays standards in regards to engineering, mathematics, chemistry (alchemy as they called it), etc. etc.

So we got religion and our origins correct 2 thousand years ago but are still adapting our knowledge in every other facet? I highly doubt it.

you do realize the bible was written by people well after the gospels died? They should be viewed as the gospel ACCORDING to Mark, Luke etc. not FROM them. Essentially a bunch of hand-me-down tales similar to a game of telephone. Also it is funny that you believe the old testament genesis as the story of our creation yet you disregard other old testament scripture....such as those which are ok with slaverly, execution for imaginary crimes like witchcraft and claim that only new testament is relevant. So old testament is bad as a moral compass but right as a historical event?

Isnt it also ironic how different cultures tend to build the same stories about our creator even though they were completely isolated during the creation of said religion?

I personally think religion is an adaptation within the human brain to lessen the fear and anxiety of death. Once we as humans became self aware that we live and we die, there was a great about of fear and anxiety associated with it so the human brain developed a mechanism to cope with those feelings. This coping mechanism lent reassurance to those who needed it and since people used to be so gullible they would believe eachothers ludicrous stories.

If God created the sun on the 4th day, how had 3 days passed.....? A day is a revolution of earth with a sunrise and sunset.

Why did God create plants on the 3rd day before creating the sun? Plants need vitamin D from the sun to perform photosynthesis.

It might be a shock at first but once he gets used to modern society he would adjust well and still would be able to rationally reject evolution.

The Biblical creation scenario can't be disproven. Evolution has been. The big bang? It only raises more questions than it answers.

Cannot be disproven? Thank you for establishing that you will never be able to alter your understanding of the universe. Evolution has been proven time and time again and that is why over 90% of scientists accept it, yet YOU know better, right?

There is NO PROOF for your God yet you use this lack of proof as evidence that he does exist aka Faith.

We understand the universe is expanding at an increasing rate, logic tells us that if you reverse this process (aka go backwards in time) then the universe must have shrunk at increasing rate, leading to a singularity (big bang).

Science is simply a methodology for understanding the universe...it uses logic and empirical testing to gather information and establish understandings of the universe.

If i wake up every morning and say some latin words over my pancakes and think it will turn them in to the body of elvis, I have lost my mind. Yet if i do the same thing with words of jesus and a cracker, im simply a catholic.

There is NOTHING you can say against the validity of any other religion other than "sorry you have the wrong God".

Also funny how an all powerful being cares more about being called the correct name (God vs. Allah) than he does the suffering of humanity and young children especially

This is so false. The Catholic Church makes it clear that you can believe in both Creation and evolution. If you do, the distinction is that when the first humans evolved, it was where the distinct human soul came into being. I believe that God is behind everything in this universe and that evolution does not contradict anything.

Great thread... just spent over an hour reading some very well thought out opinions and still didn't get through all 19 pages. I need to continue reading tomorrow but just wanted to say that I appreciate everyone's words from both side of the aisle.
