Saturday’s NHL prop picks

Victor Hedman to record an assist vs. Oilers (+100 via DraftKings)  ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman is having a bit of a resurgence this season. After putting up just 49 points in 76 games last year, the veteran blue-liner already has 19 points (15 assists) in his first 17 games.

Hedman and the Lightning have a home matchup against the Oilers on Saturday afternoon. Edmonton is allowing more than 3.5 goals per game so there should be plenty of chances for Tampa Bay to score.

Hedman has an assist in three of his last five and six of his last 10 contests. On the season, he’s recorded an assist in 11 of 17 games, including five of eight at home.

Johnny Gaudreau Under 0.5 points vs. Capitals (+105 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau is off to a horrendous start this season. He’s been benched multiple times, including in a 6-on-5 situation with the goalie pulled last time out.

Gaudreau has just six points in 17 games this season - two of which came in his second game. He hasn’t recorded a point in any of his last four games while seeing his ice time take a hit.

The Capitals have been stingy defensively recently with three goals allowed in their last three games. Columbus also hasn’t been putting up goals at a high rate.

Fade the former Calgary Flames star in Washington.

Penguins ML vs. Hurricanes (+146 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐

The Penguins burned us on Thursday night against the Devils, but we’re going right back to them in Carolina here on Saturday night.

Despite the loss to New Jersey, Pittsburgh has been playing well recently. The Pens had won five straight games before that loss and are being a bit disrespected by this line. Sure, they should be underdogs, but not nearly +150 against this Hurricanes team.

Carolina hasn’t looked like its dominant self so far this season. The Canes just lost at home as -228 favorites against the Flyers, and now the other Pennsylvania team gets a crack at them.

The Hurricanes have the third-best xGF% in the league (56.03%), but the Penguins are right behind them at 54.68%. Take the underdog Pens in Carolina.

Flames ML vs. Islanders (-140 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Calgary Flames may be starting to turn a corner after a rough start. They’ve won two straight games and are 4-1-1 in their last six contests. They’re still only 6-8-2 through 16 games, but they’ve cracked the top 10 in terms of xGF% (52.31%).

Meanwhile, the Islanders are sliding hard. They’ve lost seven straight games and are 3-6-5 after a 2-0-0 start. The Isles have the 14th-worst xGF% (48.65%) through 16 contests.

Home ice has been kind to the Flames, as they’re 3-3-0 in Calgary compared to 3-5-2 on the road. New York has struggled away from home with a 2-3-2 record on the road vs. 3-3-3 at home.

Back the Flames to get their third win in a row on Saturday at home.
