My Canada vs. Switzerland prediction has Canada rolling to a victory in their Olympic women's hockey tournament opener, alongside their legendary captain making history on the ice in Milan today.

Canada is a massive -7000 betting favorite to win today as they begin their journey for their sixth gold medal in women's hockey. Puck drop is at 3:10 p.m. ET at the Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena in Milan, Italy, with the game streaming live on CBC Gem.

For more on the Milano-Cortina Games, our Dustin Saracini explored what to bet during the Winter Olympics and the 2026 Winter Olympics medal odds. Canada (+115) is second to the USA (-155) by the odds to win gold in women's hockey.

Player prop Marie-Philip Poulin to score 2+ goals +380 via FanDuel ⭐⭐⭐

πŸ“Š Who is favored to win Canada vs. Switzerland?

This is a total mismatch, and that's reflected in the betting odds.

Even wagering on the puck line - which requires Canada to win by at least two goals to cash a bet - a $10 bet would win just $0.56 in profit. The -1800 odds at FanDuel translate to an implied probability of 94.73%, according to our odds converter.

Meanwhile, the -7000 moneyline odds for Canada to win the game by any margin translate to an implied probability of 98.59%.

Against the country that has won five of the seven gold medals all-time in women's hockey, Switzerland is being given virtually no chance to win. The United States are the only team to ever beat Canada in women's hockey at the Olympics.

πŸ’° Canada vs. Switzerland best bet: Over 6.5 (-128)

While I'm not betting on a Canadian victory, wagering on this game to go Over 6.5 goals is still backing Canadian dominance.

Canada won its preliminary games in the previous Olympics by an average of seven goals, and that included a matchup with the United States. Canada's previous matchup with Switzerland at the Olympics was a 10-3 Canadian victory in the semifinals in Beijing.

There's no money to be made on Canada to win today - because that's a foregone conclusion - but there are decent odds (-128 at FanDuel) on this game going Over its 6.5 total.

Score prediction: Canada 7, Switzerland 2

πŸ”₯ Best Canada vs. Switzerland prop bet: Marie-Philip Poulin to score 2+ goals (+380)

Team Canada captain Marie-Philip Poulin is a hockey legend. She needs only one goal to tie the legendary Hayley Wickenheiser for the all-time goal-scoring record at the Olympics.

"Captain Clutch" scored twice against Switzerland the last time they faced off at the Olympics, and I'm backing Pouling to do it again. If my bet hits, she will stand alone at the end of the night as the all-time Olympic goal-scoring leader.

While Poulin has the shortest odds of any skater to score in today's game (-155), those odds greatly improve to +380 for her to score twice.

πŸš‘ What happened to Switzerland's women's hockey team?

There have been women's hockey players on both Switzerland and Finland that have tested positive this week for norovirus, a stomach virus. Canada was originally set to open the tournament against Finland on Thursday, but that matchup had to be postponed to Feb. 12 as a result.

The Swiss only had one player test positive, but the entire squad isolated on Friday and missed the opening ceremony. Both teams plan to play on Saturday, with Switzerland taking on Canada and Finland battling Team USA.

"The incubation period has now passed," Switzerland's chief medical officer Hanspeter Betschart said in a statement, per The Associated Press' John Wawrow. "From a medical perspective, there are currently no concerns about the game taking place, provided no further players show symptoms."

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Who are Canada's best players?

Canada has the most stacked team in the women's hockey tournament, led by veteran forwards Marie-Philip Poulin, Sarah Nurse, and Brianne Jenner. All three have tied or broken Olympic hockey records in their respective careers.

Canada also has reigning PWHL Defender of the Year Renata Fast and No. 1 goaltender Ann-RenΓ©e Desbiens, who made an Olympic-record 51 saves against the United States in the 2022 Winter Games.
