Aaron Rodgers Joins Jets: How Super Bowl, MVP Odds are Impacted

With Aaron Rodgers joining the New York Jets, we look at the former MVP's impact on the Jets 2023 futures odds, including the Super Bowl.

With former MVP Aaron Rodgers joining the New York Jets, Sportsbook Review analyst Neil Parker dissects how Rodgers impacts the Jets' odds in key 2023 NFL futures markets.

And just like that, the Jets have broken down the door and stormed right into the Super Bowl conversation by officially landing coveted quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Gang Green defense was already championship caliber, but inconsistent and often inept quarterback play kept the Jets grounded on the tarmac last season. Our look at Aaron Rodgers' prop bets for the 2023 NFL season discusses the potential improvement of that offense.

Rodgers immediately catapults the offense into the upper echelon of powerhouse attacks.

The Jets will roll out an explosive collection of weapons at running back and wide receiver. New York has invested valuable draft capital into both positions and in particular, Rodgers will have gifted wideout Garrett Wilson and former Packers' No. 1 Allen Lazard with whom to play pitch and catch.

After all the speculation of Rodgers being dealt to New York, is there any value left in the odds for New York to win the Super Bowl?

Here’s a look at the odds for the Jets to win the Super Bowl, Aaron Rodgers’ odds to win the NFL MVP Award, and a New York best bet based on the odds from our best sportsbooks.

Jets' Super Bowl odds movement

Date DraftKings FanDuel BetMGM Caesars PointsBet
March 7 +2500 +1800 +1800 +3000 +2800
March 9 +1800 +1600 +1600 +1700 +1700
March 13 +1500 +1700 +1400 +1500 +1400
April 24 +1400 +1400 +1400 +1400 +1200

The Jets were already a team on the rise after showing tremendous improvement on defense in 2022. Upgrading the quarterback position has been priority No. 1 this offseason, and New York has been linked to multiple veteran starters.

As a result, it isn’t surprising to see the Jets' Super Bowl odds drop across our best sports betting sites. The worst price for bettors is the +1200 odds offered by PointsBet. New York is now carrying the price of a second-tier betting favorite, after all.

Aaron Rodgers' MVP odds movement

Date DraftKings FanDuel BetMGM Caesars PointsBet
March 7 +1600 N/A +2000 +2000 +2200
March 9 +1600 N/A +2000 +2000 +2000
March 13 +1600 N/A +2000 +2000 +2000
April 24 +1600 +1600 +1600 +1800 +1400

It’s noteworthy that there’s been limited movement in Rodgers’ MVP odds. He’s won the award four times during his career, and as noted, is now throwing to a talented pair of young pass-catchers.

Considering the numbers and lack of line movement from a different perspective, Rodgers’ odds probably couldn’t drop any further. He was already a second-tier favorite to take home the hardware, so shortening his price even further would result in a prohibitive betting number.

Jets best bet for 2023

Robert Saleh to win 2024 NFL Coach of the Year Award (+1600 via FanDuel)

With oddsmakers dialed into the Super Bowl markets, there’s an opportunity to take advantage of the odds for the Jets' head coach to take home this award. Saleh already transformed the New York defense last season, and an upgrade at quarterback positions the Jets to not just make the playoffs but contend to win it all.

Additionally, considering DraftKings is listing Saleh with NFL Coach of the Year odds as short +1200, there’s also a huge edge placing the bet through FanDuel.

Sportsbooks insights

Sports bettors also forced oddsmaker’s hands before the deal was even official.

FanDuel reported the majority of Super Bowl betting action coming in on the Jets on Wednesday following the initial speculation Rodgers would be dealt to New York. The sportsbook moved New York from +2500 to win the Super Bowl to +1600.

Caesars released more specific betting details, with 52% of the tickets and 60.9% of the handle on New York to win the 2024 Super Bowl at the shop.

Assistant director of trading at Caesars, Adam Pullen, added,

“We knew the Jets were going to try and make a splash at quarterback, so their odds were already lower to begin with. I don’t blame people for being excited about how the Jets improved last year, but the AFC is just loaded. We thought 30/1 was okay even if there were lower prices elsewhere, but the money is going to tell us what we need to know and we have to respond to the liability.”

Caesars moved the number to +2000 on Wednesday, and then all the way down to +1700 on Thursday.

There was similar line movement by BetMGM oddsmakers when Rodgers announced his intention of playing for New York in 2023.
