St. John’s has a comfortable 2.5-game lead in the Big East standings as it looks to take another step in capturing its first regular season crown in 23 years. UConn is looking to avenge a 68-62 home loss to the Red Storm just over two weeks ago.

St. John’s overcame a -10 rebound differential and 19% shooting from 3-point range to pull the upset of Connecticut earlier this month largely because it forced the Huskies into 22 turnovers.
Red Storm head coach Rick Pitino was also very creative in identifying mismatches to get UConn’s second-leading shot blocker, Samson Johnson, into early foul trouble. Johnson was limited to just eight minutes with four fouls.
St. John’s continues to overcome horrific perimeter shooting (29.8% ranks 342nd nationally) by playing rock-solid defense. The Red Storm rank second and sixth in adjusted defensive efficiency and 2-point percentage allowed.
UConn was staring at a third loss in four games when trailing Villanova by 14 with 11 minutes left. The Huskies’ 27-6 run to end the game was more due to Wildcats head coach Kyle Neptune’s end-of-game mismanagement than anything else.

Alex Karaban Under 12.5 points ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Karaban is one of three UConn players who average better than 14 points per game. But just when it looked like Karaban was getting out of his shooting slump, his poor performance against Villanova again brought pessimism. He erupted for 20 points in the team’s loss to Seton Hall last weekend, but that was his only game in the last four where he had more than 10 points.
When Karaban was surrounded by much better talent each of the last two seasons, he shot 40.2% and 37.9% from 3-point range, each ranking in the top-11 in Big East play.
However, he is shooting a career-worst 33.3% from deep this season, and has only made multiple 3-pointers once in the previous seven games.
