Though I normally like to make contrarian wagers and go against public perception, I can't help but back the Blue Devils to score 90-plus points tonight, even though they scored 100 on Thursday against Arizona.
Alabama only knows one way to play, and that is at a breakneck speed, the fastest tempo of all D-I teams.
The closest team Duke played to Alabama’s style on both ends of the court was Illinois, who the Blue Devils eviscerated for 110 points and a blistering 1.51 points per possession.
The Blue Devils are coming off their worst game in terms of overall defensive efficiency against Arizona. Thus, if their typically elite defense is getting carved up by Alabama’s unusual style, Duke will have no choice but to score in bunches.

Alabama’s defense just surrendered 41 points at the rim to a BYU team that ranked outside the top 300 this season in percentage of its points coming from 2-point range (45.3%).
I expect Duke will capitalize on its interior advantage, and while that may mean more points for Cooper Flagg, Khaman Maluach is also due for at least a couple of baskets on rim runs and alley-oops.
Maluach’s floor lately is eight points, which he has scored in six consecutive games. He tied a season-high with eight two-point attempts against Arizona and should get plenty of shots up once again in a game which figures to have a high number of possessions.

After Mark Sears dropped 34 points (his second-highest scoring total of the season) on BYU, he now ranks second among all active players in career points scored in the NCAA Tournament (238).
Thus, If Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats goes down, he is likely going down with his best playmaker having the ball in his hands a ton.
Sears’ projected point total came down from 22.5 to 20.5 on Friday afternoon, which is somewhat worrisome in how Duke projects to defend him.
But the Blue Devils allowed 22 points off ball-screen action against Arizona, and Sears is likely to be utilized a ton in pick-and-roll situations as one of the team’s two primary ball-handlers.
That has me excited to back Sears to record five or more assists for the sixth time in 10 games.
