There is an argument that the Valkyries have been quietly overperforming since losing All-Star Kayla Thornton for the year. They are 6-3 since the break, but have ranked ninth in the league with a -1.0 net rating over that span.

However, the problem with that theory is that this isn’t the game to exploit it. The Mystics have been 3-6 with a -3.0 net rating during that same stretch. They have averaged 72.6 points per game since trading away Sykes.
