Hungarian Grand Prix Picks, Predictions & Odds 2023: Can Hamilton Stop Verstappen?
Get all set to enjoy Sunday’s Formula 1 action with our Hungarian Grand Prix picks and predictions based on the best available odds from our best sports betting apps.
A challenging circuit awaits the drivers of Formula 1 this weekend. The 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix will once again take place at the Hungaroring, a track that always demands the best from the world’s top auto racers.
Defending champion Max Verstappen has been running roughshod over the rest of the series so far this season and tops the F1 championship odds. The Dutchman has won six straight races entering this weekend’s event and has gone to victory lane eight times this season.
Verstappen is the defending winner of the Hungarian GP, but he fell one spot short of claiming the pole for this year’s race. That honor went to Lewis Hamilton, an eight-time Hungarian GP winner in his own right. Could this finally be the week that a team other than Red Bull Racing gets to celebrate a victory?
Here are our best bets and 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix picks for Sunday’s race at the Hungaroring (odds via our best sports betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Hungarian GP predictions
Outright winner: Lewis Hamilton (+300 via Caesars) ⭐⭐
Only three drivers in this year’s field have previously won the Hungarian Grand Prix. The odds-on favorite, Max Verstappen, triumphed last year, and Esteban Ocon was victorious in 2021. However, only Lewis Hamilton has won this race multiple times. In fact, his eight total Hungarian GP victories are double what any other F1 driver has accomplished in history.
Needless to say, Hamilton has a strong pedigree when it comes to navigating the tricky Hungaroring. Even though he didn't win in the last two years, he still performed very well with runner-up finishes both times. Hamilton will also be starting out front for Sunday’s race after edging Verstappen by 0.003 seconds in qualifying to claim the pole.
The sport’s top driver and team may be lurking right behind, but one can’t help but be enticed by the opportunity to snag Hamilton at a +300 price point. With our other best sportsbooks listing him as low as +250, Caesars’ line also presents solid market value.

Top 6 finish: Carlos Sainz (+175 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐
It was a lackluster qualifying session for Carlos Sainz on Saturday. As a result, he will be lining up 11th on the Hungarian GP starting grid. With five spots separating him from ultimately reaching the top six, it’s easy to see why oddsmakers have this prop offering a favorable plus-money return. For bettors, there is simply too much value here to pass up.
First and foremost, one must consider how well Sainz has run at the Hungaroring in the past. He may not have an outright win to his name, but he has been a solid finisher in each of the last two years since joining the Ferrari team. He achieved a third-place result in 2021 despite only starting 15th on the grid and came home fourth last year.
The other key element to consider here is the drivers who will be slotted ahead of Sainz on the starting grid. The Alfa Romeo tandem of Guanyu Zhou and Valtteri Bottas turned in a surprisingly strong qualifying session. However, Sainz figures to be more than capable of surpassing them both. The same can be said of Haas’ Nico Hulkenburg.
If those three passes come to fruition, Sainz will only need to gain two other positions to finish in the top six. The McLaren tandem of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri could be vulnerable, and perhaps issues could befall another notable star during the race. Combine the drivers ahead of him with his previous success at this track and the +175 price is well worth considering.
Podium finish parlay: Max Verstappen (-752) and Lewis Hamilton (-200) = -143 (via PointsBet) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Having gone against the odds and picked Hamilton to win the race outright, bettors may be wondering about other ways to have action on Verstappen this week. Well, this podium finish parlay seemingly carries very little risk and actually offers a decent return.
To put things simply, Hamilton and Verstappen will be the first two drivers on Sunday’s starting grid. The former has won this race eight times in his career and was runner-up in each of the last two years. The latter has won eight of the first 10 races run in the current F1 season and is also the defending Hungarian GP winner from a year ago.
That’s pretty much it. What more in-depth analysis could one possibly need to believe that the probability of both drivers finishing on the podium is better than the 58.8% chance that PointsBet’s -143 parlay odds imply?
As if there was enough going for this two-leg parlay already, it should also be noted that the PointsBet price is a discount compared to other shops. At FanDuel, a Verstappen/Hamilton podium finish parlay is priced at -155. DraftKings has the same bet priced even lower at -165.
