BMW Championship Picks, Odds & Favorites: McIlroy, Scheffler Lead Top 50 to Olympia Fields
The top 50 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings are moving on to this week's BMW Championship, and we make our top picks with Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy once again the betting favorites by the odds from our best golf betting sites.
Lucas Glover's reign of terror on the PGA Tour has him with back-to-back victories in the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The 43-year-old is back up to No. 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and soared to fourth in the season-long FedEx Cup standings. However, he's still not priced among the favorites by the BMW Championship odds as the second-to-last event of the season takes place at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois this week.
Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, and Rory McIlroy retain the top three spots in the FedEx Cup standings and possess the best FedEx Cup odds heading into the penultimate event of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season. The top 30 golfers in the season-long points race after this week will advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club, where McIlroy will seek his second straight title.
Here's our look at the best BMW Championship picks for Olympia Fields Country Club (odds via our best sports betting apps).

BMW Championship picks
Hideki Matsuyama to win (+3500 via FanDuel, Caesars)
Matsuyama enters the week of the BMW Championship 34th in the OWGR and 47th in the FedEx Cup standings. As such, he'll need a big finish this week to qualify for the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club for the 10th straight season.
I think he has it in him.
Matsuyama tied for third in the 2020 BMW Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club. He ranks sixth this PGA Tour season in birdie-or-better percentage from the key distance of 125 or fewer yards. His putter finally got hot last week in the FedEx St. Jude Championship and his irons remained a strength from tee to green.
His poor play of late with the driver showed some signs of positive regression while shooting a final round of 5-under par and his previously ice-cold putter returned to life in his most recent competitive round.
We're getting great value in these odds from FanDuel and Caesars with DraftKings offering the market-low price of +3000.
Corey Conners to finish top 10 (+330 via DraftKings, Caesars)
Conners is coming off a strong T-6 finish in the FedEx St. Jude Championship in which he averaged 0.59 strokes gained: off-the-tee and 0.83 SG: putting per round. Those have been consistent strengths across his last 24 measured rounds and I fully expect him to bounce back quickly from what was a disappointing week with his irons.
The Canadian tied for 33rd at Olympia Fields in 2020 and that was with an atrocious 1.95 strokes lost per round with his flat stick. Banking on improved play on the greens, I like him to greatly improve upon that finish with his current form. Entering the week at 25th in the FedEx Cup standings, Conners will also need a strong showing to retain his positioning heading to East Lake for the Tour Championship.
DraftKings and Caesars share the market-best odds in this market with FanDuel offering more modest odds of +270.
BMW Championship field notes
Cameron Young, Hideki Matsuyama, Tom Hoge, Harris English, and Patrick Rodgers snuck into the BMW Championship with spots Nos. 46-50, respectively, in the FedEx Cup standings. They're among the many that'll need a high finish this week to book their ticket to East Lake. Sam Burns enters the week at No. 30 in the standings with Sahith Theegala at No. 31.
Patrick Cantlay will attempt to win the BMW Championship for the third straight year after losing to Glover in a playoff last week in Memphis, TN. Rahm won the 2020 BMW Championship and will look to cement his place atop the FEC standings and enter the Tour Championship with the minus-10 pole position on the leaderboard.
With points quadrupled once again this week, many in the field will be looking to follow Glover in rising up the standings.
Olympia Fields Country Club course info
- Par: 70
- Length: 7,353 yards
- Greens: Bentgrass/Poa Annua
- Architect: Willie Park Jr.
This is the first year the BMW Championship is being played at Olympia Fields CC since Rahm's victory in 2020. Cantlay's wins in this event were in Caves Valley, MD and Wilmington, DE in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Rahm won in a playoff over Dustin Johnson at minus-4 three years ago.
Olympia Fields' North Course is a relatively long par-70 venue. While the fairways are narrow, the rough and surrounding areas aren't overly penal for wayward drives, making driving distance slightly more important than accuracy.
The course's greens are the main defense. Most putting surfaces are elevated and of moderate size.
Three of the four par 3s exceed 200 yards and two of three par 5s are longer than 600 yards. The most common par-4 range is 400-450 yards. There aren't many birdie opportunities with par being an ideal score on most holes.
