Satoshi Kodaira to win the Barbasol Championship (+11000 via FanDuel)

I absolutely love weeks with two events on the PGA Tour. With the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Xander Schauffele occupied in Scotland, we're left with a wide-open watered down field for the Barbasol Championship for Kentucky sports betting enthusiasts to enjoy.

Not only can the books not price these alternate events as well as others but the lesser-known participants remove the threat of bias many golf bettors carry into a normal week. Thus, without a threat of heavy betting action on any specific golfer(s), we often get higher odds throughout the field than we would for a regular event.

As a result of those factors, we're backing Kodaira to claim his second PGA Tour victory—and first since 2018—with odds as high as +11000 via FanDuel. Other books have dropped Kodaira's Barbasol Championship odds as low as +7500 as of Wednesday morning.

Driving—both distance and accuracy—is paramount at the 7,328-yard Keene Trace Golf Club. Kodaira leads the PGA Tour in good drive percentage for the 2022-23 season. He averaged 0.60 strokes gained: off-the-tee in a T-57 finish at last week's John Deere Classic, in which he lost more than 1.50 strokes per round with his putter.

Kodaira has been much closer to neutral with his flat stick this season, and he has experience at Keene Trace GC. He played this event each of the past three years with no finish worse than a T-53 and a top showing of T-20 in 2021.

Grayson Murray to lead after Round 1 (+5000 via BetMGM)

Murray has played about 50-50 between the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour in 2023, but one thing has remained consistent: his performance in Round 1.

The 29-year-old American shot 68 or lower in the opening round of each of his three KFT events in June. He then jumped back to the PGA Tour to open last week's John Deere Classic with a 7-under 64 (two back of the 18-hole lead) en route to a T-6 finish.

Adding to this pick is the value in the +5500 odds via Caesars vs. the market-low odds of +4500 from FanDuel. That's a difference of $100 on a winning $10 bet.

Murray's 7:40 a.m. ET tee time is further support for this pick.

Vince Whaley to finish top 10 (+400)

This is a hold-your-nose type pick. But there are a few reasons to back the 410th-ranked golfer in the OWGR to finish in the top 10 of this field.

Whaley will make his third appearance at Keene Trace Golf Club this week off of a T-26 finish in 2021 and a fifth-place showing last year. He also enters this week as the field leader in strokes gained: off-the-tee across his last 10 measured rounds. His putter and short game got hot at this venue last year, so we're banking on his experience helping him to replicate that performance.

Cameron Champ to win (+3500 via BetMGM)

Update: Cameron Champ withdrew from the Barbasol Championship Tuesday evening.

A three-time PGA Tour champion, Champ is greatly undervalued in a field largely comprised of golfers looking for their first victory. That last win came from the 2021 3M Open in late July.

Champ ranks among the longest hitters off the tee over the last 24 measured rounds for every golfer in this field. He's easily the most accurate with the driver among those near him on the distance leaderboard, and he has been performing very well with his irons during that stretch.

The 28-year-old's putter got right in a 5-under par final round performance at last week's John Deere Classic, and we'll bank on him to carry that forward to his debut at Keene Trace GC.
