Tennessee vs. Oklahoma Prediction, Picks & Odds: Week 4
Tennessee entered the season comfortably ranked inside the AP Top 25, but their preseason ranking didn’t reflect the Volunteers being considered a genuine national title contender.
Now they've reached that status and sit seventh in the college football championship odds, with their rising quarterback Nico Lamaleava fourth in the Heisman odds.
The torrid start on Rocky Top has made the pollsters suddenly sing a different tune, and for good reason. Our Tennessee vs. Oklahoma prediction envisions the Vols serving as a rather unfriendly welcoming committee in the Sooners’ first-ever SEC conference game.
Best Tennessee vs. Oklahoma picks
College football picks based on the odds from our best college football betting sites. Odds subject to change.
- Against the spread pick: Tennessee -6.5 (-112 via DraftKings) vs. Oklahoma ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Player prop pick: Dylan Sampson Over 86.5 rushing yards (-114 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Tennessee vs. Oklahoma against the spread prediction: Week 4
Tennessee to cover the spread: -6.5 (-112) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Tennessee vs. Oklahoma opening odds:
- Tennessee: +3.5 (-110)
- Oklahoma: -3.5 (-110)
We’ve seen significant movement in this line since it opened with Oklahoma a field-goal-plus favorite for our college football Week 4 predictions. The Vols are now full-touchdown favorites at many of the books offering the best sportsbook promos.
It’s still not nearly enough.
Welcome to the SEC, Sooners
Oklahoma has been stumbling through wins over Tulane and Houston over the past couple of weeks. Meanwhile, Tennessee demolished Kent State 71-0 after holding a 65-0 lead at halftime last week. Before that, it ventured into Charlotte and dropped 51 on then-ranked NC State.
The Sooners get to host their conference opener in the school's first year as a member of the SEC. But I don’t believe the venue is going to save them from what’s about to happen.
The Vols are the top-ranked team in the country in FPI’s overall efficiency metric, with a dynamic quarterback leading the way. Tennessee has been arguably even better on the other side of the ball, allowing just 127.5 yards of total offense per game, the best mark in the nation.
In my favorite pick of the week across college football, the wake-up call comes for the Sooners on Saturday. You can still get Tennessee -6.5 with -112 odds through DraftKings, but this line should push to -7 or beyond throughout our best sportsbooks.
For me, the Vols' spread is a five-star recommendation up to -9.5. Mike Spector is also backing the Volunteers in his SEC predictions, but he thinks you should focus on the first half.

Dylan Sampson Over 86.5 rushing yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Although Oklahoma has been pretty strong against the run while allowing just 77.7 yards per game, the Sooners' front seven hasn’t been given a test remotely close to the one it’s about to endure against Tennessee.
Vols can establish the run game any time, any place
With the Vols holding a 65-point lead at halftime against Kent State last week, you’d have figured Nico Iamaleava would have been torching the Golden Flashes.
But Tennessee did its best work on the ground in that one, boasting multiple 100-plus yard rushers in the win.
Backfield mate DeSean Bishop outgained Dylan Sampson in that contest, but it should be the latter getting the bulk of the workload in the SEC opener. The junior is averaging 7.9 yards per carry and has cleared a triple-digit rushing output in all three games this season.
Sampson’s 86.5-yard line at FanDuel is attainable, especially in my anticipated game script that sees the Vols winning handily. FanDuel’s -114 odds are a shade better than the -115 offering from BetMGM on the same rushing line.
Avoid Caesars or bet365 for an Over wager on Sampson’s rushing total, as those books list the line at 88.5 yards.
If you can get this line at reasonable yardage, then pursue the Over. However, Shane Jackson cautions against a swiftly rising total among our best sports betting sites in his Tennessee vs. Oklahoma player props.
