This is Flash Flood Alley. They’ve called it that for decades. Scientists warned. Local officials knew. But Texas chose not to prepare. The topography is unforgiving: limestone hills, shallow rivers, rapid runoff. When the sky opens up, this region doesn’t flood. It drowns. It suffocates. And still, nothing. Because in the minds of these so-called “efficiency experts,” saving lives is a luxury. The bare minimum is too expensive.
Texas is the cautionary tale. It’s what happens when the government decides its job is not to serve the people, but to shrink until it disappears. The dead in Flash Flood Alley didn’t need to die. They died because warnings went unheeded, because funds went unused, and because the infrastructure built to protect them was methodically, proudly destroyed.

Trump asks Liberian president where he learned English, his country's official language
President Donald Trump was basking in the praise of a group of African leaders on Wednesday, many of them speaking a different language, when the Liberian president took to his microphone and spoke in English - his country's official language.
"Liberia is a longtime friend of the United States and we believe in your policy of making America great again," President Joseph Boakai said at a White House meeting before advocating for U.S. investment in his country. "We just want to thank you so much for this opportunity."
Trump was impressed and inquired where Boakai got his language skills.
"Such good English," Trump said. "Where did you learn to speak so beautifully?"
Boakai seemed to chuckle.
"In Liberia?" Trump asked. "Yes sir," Boakai said.
"That's very interesting," Trump said. "I have people at this table who can't speak nearly as well."
Liberia was founded in 1822 as a colony for free Black Americans, the brainchild of white Americans trying to address what they saw as a problem - the future for Black people in the United States once slavery ended. English is Liberia's official language, though multiple Indigenous languages are spoken there as well.
Trump's cabinet meeting yesterday was longer that all Biden's cabinet meeting combined during his disastrous 4 years.
So go ahead, and take your victory lap or whatever you are fake news addicts are doing. Trump is working around the clock with different time zones making things better in the US and while his compliment came out a little funny, he was sincere to the man. You could tell he was tired. It's not as if he said something goofy like "the USA is paying China and Japan 1 trillion per year in interest on that debt."
