how can they not know how big of an eye roll this digging in of the heels on the semantics of this will be to 95% of people?

It is not clear what nooses represent? if anything nefarious I would guess they represent a cavalier attitude towards the thousands of people that hang themselves every year of all backgrounds.

I don't know shit about knots. But I do remember very many times in the past, when I had a long string or rope to fiddle with I'd just try to replicate what a noose looked like out of idle curiousity. I was sending no message, I had no malice forethought or malicious intent. I was just fiddling with a rope and trying to replicate a very common image of a rope that was seen often in movies and tv and 90% of the time it was dealing with a suicide or old school hangings of white criminals in westerns, in that fiction. That's the bigger connection.
