WATCH: ‘We’ll Make Some Sh*t Up’: Cop Not Charged for Kidnapping, Framing His Daughter’s Boyfriend

Lorain, OH — An abusive power tripping cop was fired after dashcam footage surfaced showed him pull over his own daughter and her boyfriend and threaten to make “some s**t up” to arrest him. Not only was he caught threatening to arrest an innocent teen and illegally detaining two innocent people but this abusive cop was also caught ignoring an actual call for help during the stop.

On April 16, 2018 Lorain police officer John Kovach Jr. pulled over his daughter’s boyfriend, Makai Coleman without cause and broke a slew of laws in the process. Three years later and this cop has yet to face any repercussions other than being fired from the department.

Last June, the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office determined that Kovach’s actions in April 2018 did not rise to the level of a federal civil rights violation.

The incident was an “more of an internal matter,” Cleveland FBI spokeswoman Vicki Anderson said.

According Safety-Service Director Dan Given, Police Chief Cel Rivera and other command officers, Kovach violated a slew of department policies during the stop, including unlawfully using police resources to track down his daughter’s ip address on her phone and geo-locate it.

“These actions are not acceptable for members of our Police Department and we felt it warranted immediate dismissal,” Given said.

As the Chronicle-Telegram reports, according to an internal investigation completed by Lt. Ed Super as well as dashcam footage from Kovach’s cruiser, shortly before 6 p.m. on April 16 a silver vehicle with a driver and three passengers passed Kovach’s patrol car in the same direction that he was facing on West 34th Street. Without alerting dispatch, Kovach initiates a stop.

Kovach then orders Colemen from the car as his own daughter sits in the back seat. He tells Coleman that he is “going to jail,” and demands the teen “have a seat in my car.” When Coleman questions why he’s being arrested, Kovach responds by saying, “We’ll make sh*t up as we go.”
                  According to the report:

Kovach then addresses Gloria Morales, who comes out of her home nearby because her children are two of the three people in the car with Coleman. He tells Morales his daughter’s computer is inside her house and while she initially gives him permission to search the house, she later tells him to come back with a search warrant when he threatens to give her daughter a $300 ticket for not wearing her seatbelt.

Morales and Kovach argue back and forth after Kovach tells her to go inside the house. When she says she is calling 911, he threatens to arrest her, telling her it is not an emergency, according to documents related to the firing. He tells her two children to get out of the car and go with Morales. At that point, he notices his daughter, Katlyn Kovach, 18, in the backseat.

At that point, Kovach tells Coleman to get out of the cruiser and he pushes his daughter into the cruiser while she protests that she is 18 and can’t be arrested for without cause. He eventually gets her into the cruiser and drives away.

During the stop, Kovach failed to address an actual call for help about a road rage incident down the street. He simply ignores the call while threatening to arrest an innocent mother, search her home without a warrant, and kidnap and extort multiple innocent teens—including his own child.

Kovach attempted to justify the unlawful behavior by claiming he was worried for his daughter’s safety and cited an apparently non-existent Facebook post as his reason.

Coleman said that he had been stalked by Kovach, receiving a call weeks prior to the stop telling him that he would make up a warrant to have him arrested. According to Coleman, the officer also said he would go to the Army recruiter and tell them not to allow Coleman to leave for boot camp and ruin his chances of getting in the Army.

During an internal investigation, the claims of Kovach’s misconduct were all substantiated and the officer was recommended for discipline. He was then fired on May 11, 2018.

Rivera said the actions his officer were “an abuse of police authority and a serious departure from appropriate protocol…they are contrary to the mission, values and policies of the Lorain Police Department.”

Despite these egregious acts — all of which were caught on video — Kovach remains a free man.

Still think that blue privilege doesn’t exist?

Woman Charged With ‘Hate Crime’, Facing Prison Time, for Stomping a ‘Back the Blue’ Sign

In 2015, in an outburst of pure insanity, the National Fraternal Order of Police, a union representing over 300,000 officers, called for cops to be included under Congress’s hate crimes statute. This demand has since materialized into multiple acts of “Blue Lives Matter” laws, and TFTP has reported on their use multiple times. Never, however, have we seen hate crime legislation used to prosecute the free speech of an innocent person — until now.

A 19-year-old woman in Utah has been charged with a hate crime after she allegedly stomped on a “back the blue” sign at a gas station. There was no victim and no one had been harmed, yet a Garfield County police officer claimed the young woman’s actions made him fear for his life and therefore pushed to have her charged with a hate crime.

According to the arrest affidavit, as reported by the Salt Lake Tribune, the Garfield County police officer was conducting a traffic stop for speeding at a gas station when the officer saw a woman “stomping on a ‘Back the Blue’ sign next to where the traffic stop was conducted, crumble it up in a destructive manner and throw it into a trash can all while smirking in an intimidating manner towards me.”

The “smirking” caused the cop to fear for his safety and he moved to detain and subsequently arrest the woman for her completely legal act.

                        SLT reports:

"The officer writes they asked the woman where she had gotten the sign, and she stated it was her mother’s. According to the affidavit, the officer told the woman that the local Sheriff’s Office produced those specific signs and that they believed “she had acquired it in our community.”

After reading the woman her Miranda rights, the officer stated she gave “inconsistent stories” about where she found the sign, eventually stating she found it on the ground.

'Due to [the woman] destroying property that did not belong to her in a manner to attempt to intimidate law enforcement, I placed her under arrest,' the affidavit says."

Because the woman “smirked in an intimidating manner,” her actions consisted of a hate crime according to the arrest affidavit — “the demeanor displayed by [the woman] in attempts to intimidate law enforcement while destroying a ‘Pro Law Enforcement’ sign."

The cop needs the public to believe the smirking teen made him fear for his life as this is what’s required for a hate crime to take place. According to the legislation, a person commits a hate crime if that person acts “with the intent to intimidate or terrorize another person or with reason to believe that his action would intimidate or terrorize that person.”

“Intimidate or terrorize” means an act which causes the person to fear for his physical safety or damages the property of that person or another. The act must be accompanied with the intent to cause or has the effect of causing a person to reasonably fear to freely exercise or enjoy any right secured by the Constitution or laws of the state or by the Constitution or laws of the United States.

According to this officer, he feared for his physical safety so the teen’s act of free exercise of speech was no longer protected and therefore, she has committed a hate crime. If a 19-year-old woman crumbling up a sign causes you to fear for your safety or is considered an act of terror by you, you have no business being in law enforcement and are a danger to society while entrusted with arrest powers and a gun. Nevertheless, the state does not see it this way, and the woman’s prosecution is underway.

Because the cop was offended by this woman’s act of free speech, she now faces the possibility of spending an entire year of her life in a cage for a “hate crime” that never took place. This is the justice system in the land of the free.

Cop Sentenced to 12 Years in a Cage After Video Showed Him Plant Meth on Innocent Grandma

Jackson County, FL — Dozens of innocent people who were rotting in jail have been freed and their charges erased after the corrupt cop who put them there was caught on his own body camera planting meth on an innocent grandmother. As TFTP has reported, disgraced Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Zachary Wester was fired and arrested, as a slew of lawsuits rolled in.

In 2019, this most insidious police officer was arrested on 67 counts of planting meth and other street drugs on entirely innocent motorists he would randomly pull over.

In May, a six person jury found Wester guilty on 19 counts involving three of his alleged victims and not guilty on 48 other counts involving the other nine victims. This week, he was sentenced to 12 years behind bars.

Wester was convicted on charges of racketeering, official misconduct, fabricating evidence, false imprisonment and possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia and with 58 days of jail credit, this extremely bad cop will spend the next 12 years, six months, and 8 days locked in a cage for these crimes.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the jury found Wester guilty on counts involving Teresa Odom, Joshua Emanuel and Steven Vann, all of whom were charged with possession of meth after Wester pulled them over. Wester’s body camera, which recorded the entire Odom stop, showed him with a baggie in his hand before he searched her pickup truck.

“You’ve robbed me of my credibility, and [as] a mother and a grandmother for the last three years,” Odom said in a brief statement before the court. “I probably missed a year and a half of my grandbaby’s life because of this. I wish you no ill will, and you’ll never know what you’ve done to me until you have children of your own.”

“The defendant’s criminal conduct represents an egregious breach of the public trust,” said prosecutor Tom Williams.

Indeed it does as the Free Thought Project reported on all of these victims over the past several years.

During the initial investigation, Wester’s coworkers searched his vehicle and found a wealth of unmarked evidence, including 42 pieces of drug paraphernalia, 10 baggies of meth and five baggies of marijuana.

During the trial, Wester tried telling the jury he “found” the items in a men’s restroom in a public park and simply forgot about them in his trunk and failed to report it. But the jury did not buy it as the items were similar to those he planted on drivers, investigators said.

As TFTP reported, Wester’s fall from law enforcement grace and roughly 120 people who were exonerated are due largely in part to the diligence of a single person, then an assistant state attorney at the 14th Judicial Circuit, Christina Pumphrey.

Pumphrey’s job as assistant state attorney included reviewing evidence before moving forward with charges against individuals. When she began reviewing cases, she found something very peculiar.

“This is an exaggeration, but it felt like his (Wester’s) name was on half the cases,” Pumphrey told The Appeal. “It was seriously disproportionate.”

When Pumphrey began watching the body camera footage from Wester’s arrests, she found something even more disturbing. Many times, Wester was seen conducting illegal searches. Also, his written affidavits did not match what she watched in the videos. But that wasn’t the most telling aspect of all these videos.

While it is no question that folks will claim that drugs found on them or in their possession “aren’t theirs” and “they don’t know how that got there,” nearly all of Wester’s cases had this element. The videos showed that people were utterly shocked when Wester claimed to have found drugs in their vehicles. While a single person may have been lying, when everyone reacts the exact same way, something is awry.

Although she reviewed multiple videos, Pumphrey never saw the actual act of Wester planting drugs or otherwise hiding them. However, all that changed when Wester pulled over Teresa Odom in February of 2018.In that video, Wester pulls Odom over, claiming her tail lights aren’t working. However, it would later be revealed that her tail lights were, in fact, working fine and Wester had targeted her to frame her.

In the video, Wester is extremely nice to the woman, complimenting her, joking around, and making small talk. But in the back of his mind, he knew the entire time that he was going to plant meth on her and have her thrown in a cage—an insidious move indeed.

After threatening to have a K-9 come search her car, Wester tells Odom that she can avoid the K-9 if she just lets him search her truck himself—a huge mistake.

As the body camera shows, Wester opens the door to Odom’s truck and is cupping a small baggie with a white powder in it.

Wester would plant the substance under a red towel in her truck and then pretend to find it later. Odom would then be arrested and thrown in a cage so this officer could make himself look like a hero.

Another of Wester’s victims was Chris Fears who was targeted along with his wife by this insidious public servant. Wester sang, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” as he searched the Fears’ Chevrolet Tahoe he pulled over in the Lowe’s parking lot in Marianna.

“Man, I am in the Christmas spirit,” he said as he rifled through the SUV. “I mean, I like to hum a tune in case something ever goes to the jury, you know, so they’re not just sitting somewhere … chilling.”

He then planted a container of meth in the car and arrested the couple as he taunted them.

                                “Looky there,” Wester said.

“What the hell?” said Fears, clearly stunned by the discovery.

“I’ll explain that in just a minute man, just put your hands behind your back for me,” Wester said as he cuffed him.

“I do not do drugs,” Fears said. “I do not do drugs.”

Using a field kit, Wester tested the substance, which came up positive for meth.

“Man this is bull—-,” Fears said. “I didn’t do nothing. All I do is take my ass to work.”

Fears, along with 11 other victims are now suing after their lives was ruined by this cop.

“When he arrested me, I lost my job and I had to pretty much sell everything I had that was worth anything to keep a roof over my head,” Fears said. “I couldn’t find a job because nobody wanted to hire somebody with a fresh meth arrest. Me and my wife split up for a while over that because it was just so damn stressful.”

Apparently, it wasn’t just Wester who had an interest in locking up innocent people as he had the full support of his higher ups.

“The state attorney’s office was just as bad and just as guilty as Zach Wester when we found this out and were not dropping these cases immediately, in my mind,” Pumphrey said. “When it was ignorance it was one thing, but as soon as we know there are innocent people sitting in jail and we don’t drop the charges, we’re as guilty as he is.”

Although Wester was fired after Pumphrey exposed him, it took investigators months to bring the charges against him.

“People still had consequences. It wasn’t like this was just all erased,” Pumphrey said. Dropped charges still remain on a person’s criminal record. And “even though the charges got dropped, there were people sitting in jail for six months on no bond because of this case. Or you’ve got people who have to spend money on supervision fees; they have to spend money paying for their own urine analysis test; they’ve done community service hours; they paid cost of bond — like $1,500. … You’re not getting back six months of your life. Or you’re not getting back the job that you lost because you sat in jail for a week before your girlfriend could get the bond money.”

The next time someone tells you that obeying the law will keep you out of trouble with police, show them this article. A single cop had over 100 potential victims. For now, however, it appears that the system has moved to make a correction.

Below is the testimony from Odom during the trial, as well as the body camera footage from this sadistic criminal framing an innocent grandmother. As you watch the video below, imagine the type of person it takes to be able to do this to someone’s grandma. Society will be better off for the next 12 years without this man in it.

Cop Who Murdered Man with Hands Up, Given an iPad in Jail to Access Child Porn Behind Bars

Oklahoma City, OK — Another homicide of an unarmed mentally-ill civilian took place again in 2017 at the hands of law enforcement. And while most police officers enjoy special protections under the law, called “qualified immunity” in this particular instance, an Oklahoma City police officer was charged with second-degree murder and sentenced to 10 years.

In November 2019, a jury convicted former officer Keith Sweeney of second-degree murder and recommended he spend 10 years in prison for it. He has been in prison ever since. While folks thought they were safe from this danger to society, it appears he found a way to victimize society’s most vulnerable while behind bars.

This disgraced former cop is now facing 12 charges of child pornography after allegedly using an iPad and the Marshall County Detention Center’s Wi-Fi to prey on children. According to authorities, an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) tip led them to to this murdering child predator behind bars, which is unusual, according to police.

“ICAC investigations don’t usually point us to an individual that’s behind bars,” said Sarah Jensen with the Norman Police Department. Jensen explained that the person who tipped off ICAC had ties to the city of Norman, though they were not immediately made clear.

“We were able to determine through IP addresses, and a number of other things, that it was occurring while inside the jail facility,” said Jensen.

While internet devices and iPads are normally considered contraband in many jails, apparently, Sweeney’s blue privilege extended behind bars and he was given an iPad and the password to the jail’s Wi-Fi. Now, the jail is playing dumb, claiming they had no idea how Sweeney was given an iPad.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said Sheriff Donald Yow did not know Sweeney was given the iPad to use behind bars. Since then, the sheriff said he has changed all the passwords and confiscated all equipment, according to KFOR.

Apparently, Sweeney was able to access old files he had stored on the web, meaning before he murdered Dustin Pigeon, he was likely preying on children. According to KFOR, the Marshall County Sheriff’s office said a former jail administrator allowed Sweeney to have an iPad while behind bars which, “allowed prisoner Sweeney to have access to the detention center along with the password.” This allowed the former officer to “remotely access his old files and share them.”

“He was utilizing a specific application on that device that he was utilizing inside the jail that allowed him to gain the access,” said Jensen.

Naturally, his union-appointed attorney, Gary James, is still standing up for the cop, noting “the Keith Sweeney I know, and I know him well, is not that kind of guy.”

James says he has a “gut-feeling” that the accusations against Sweeney are untrue — despite the proof — and says there must be an error.

“You usually can get a gut instinct or a feeling about your client. But this kind of thing? No,” said James, adding that anyone could have been using the iPad.

“I’m incarcerated with other people that have access to my iPad,” he said, while imitating what may be going through the accused’s head. “And if you’ve got access to my iPad, what might you do?”

“I do not believe the allegations of child pornography. It’s just not in his makeup,” said the attorney.

But this attorney also defended Sweeney in court after he murdered an unarmed mentally ill man with his hands up.

As TFTP previously reported, the incident unfolded about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 15, 2017, after the victim called 911 threatening suicide.

Police were called to the 1400 Block of SW 20, to assist with Pigeon. Upon arrival, OKC officers encountered Pigeon in his yard. The disturbed young man had doused himself with lighter fluid, yet was compliant with some of the commands the officers were giving him, just not the one to put the lighter fluid down.

Body camera video showed that officers were attempting to de-escalate the situation before Sweeney showed up and devolved it into a bloody nightmare.

As Sweeney approached Pigeon with his gun drawn, he began yelling, “Drop it!” As he continues to yell at the unarmed man, Sweeney threatens to kill him, saying “I will (expletive) shoot you! Get on the ground!”

When one officer fires a beanbag round, Sweeney followed suit but with real 9mm bullets. He dumped 5 rounds in the direction of Pigeon, hitting him 3 times, including once in the heart.

                                      Pigeon was killed instantly.

Cop Reportedly Runs Stop Sign, Kills 9yo Boy Crossing the Street — No Charges

Chicago, IL — Shamai and Sara Leah Weinberger experienced every parents worst nightmare this week when their son, Shmuel Hershel Weinberger, 9, was struck and killed while riding his bike in front of their home. According to witnesses, the man who struck Hershel, blew through a stop sign before smashing into the 9-year-old.The president of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police, John Catanzara, confirmed on Thursday that the man behind the wheel was a Chicago cop. He was off-duty and driving his Toyota Tundra near the boy’s home around 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to police and witnesses, Hershel was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk Wednesday evening when he crossed the street at a stop sign. That is when the unidentified officer crashed into him.

Neighbors were outside when the officer struck Hershel and reported that the truck “dragged the bicycle” for a while before it came to a stop. The neighbors then immediately rushed out to help the child but it was too late.

According to police, Hershel’s parents were outside as well and ran to their son to help him. Hershel’s father held his son in his arms as he died.

“At that point he knew his son wasn’t going to make it,” a friend told local media. “He told me that the connection he felt at that moment with him and his son was just very, very spiritual.”

Hershel was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A witness at the scene that night told police that the officer did not stop at the stop sign before he hit the child. Yet the officer reportedly didn’t receive so much as a ticket.

According to WGN9, Catanzara said the officer took a breathalyzer, which is standard procedure, but it reportedly came back negative. Catanzara told the news outlet that the officer is “traumatized by this tragic incident.”

Other than the union, the Chicago police department has not released any information, nor have they filed charges against the officer — despite witness testimony.

If the officer would have actually stopped at the stop sign, the chances of running over Hershel would be greatly diminished. Even if he would have hit him — if he would have actually stopped — it would have likely just knocked the boy off his bike.

In order to hit someone and “drag” them, the person driving must have been going fast enough not to see him, implying that he did not stop.

A GoFundMe was started by a friend of the family has has raised well over $100,000 to help them.

Even if it is proven that the officer ran the stop sign, the likelihood that he will face charges is slim to none.

As TFTP reported in September 2015, on a rainy Saturday night, Georgia state trooper Anthony Scott was flexing his above the law privilege and driving at dangerously high speeds for no reason. He was doing 91 mph in a 55 mph zone. Scott was not on his way to a call, nor did he have any official reason for driving fast. While travelling at such a high rate of speed, he slammed into a Nissan Sentra carrying four kids. Kylie Hope Lindsey, 17, and Isabella Alise Chinchilla, 16, who were in the back seat of the Nissan, were killed.

For years, Kylie’s family has been fighting for justice for their daughter. However, thanks to a corrupt system, not only has this cop avoided any and all accountability, but he’s been rewarded in the form of two elected positions. As TFTP reported at the time, Scott was elected to city council only three months after killing young Kylie and Isabella. It was also reported that he can even return to law enforcement.

                                          But that’s not all.

In 2019, as the city of Buchanan held their elections, Scott ran uncontested and after serving as a member of the city council, this killer cop became the mayor. Amazingly enough, the media coverage of who won mayor is completely non-existent so we interviewed the victim’s mother at the time. You can read that interview here.

Picayune Officer Joshua Stockstill Arrested for Child Exploitation

Picayune Police officer Joshua Stockstill was arrested by the FBI this week as part of a child sexual exploitation investigation. The investigation began back in February when the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children recorded a video featuring an unidentified adult male and a child. The video is believed to have been made before 2018. On Wednesday, the FBI published a poster featuring the man's face, labeled him "John Doe 44," and asked the public for tips (see PDF link above). Stockstill was arrested the next day and immediately fired by the Picayune Police Department (PPD). He had been with the department for six years.

According to media reports, Stockstill currently faces four counts of distribution, one count of lustful touching, and one count of production related to child exploitation. To us that sounds an awful lot like like production and distribution of child pornography starring himself as the molester in chief.

Note: We are pleasantly surprised to learn that he was fired immediately. Usually police officers are placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case no matter how serious the charges are. For instance, just last week a dead body was discovered in a cop's home and he is still employed despite being charged with murder.

NO JAIL for Cop Found Guilty of Trafficking Child Porn of Children as Young as 3

Kansas City, MO — In the land of the free, if you are caught with a plant — even in states where it is legal — you can and will be kidnapped and caged for very long periods of time. The Free Thought Project has long reported on cruel and inhumane sentences for marijuana, up to and including life behind bars for tiny amounts of this plant. The state attempts to convince us that this is to protect society but those who pay attention know they are lying — especially when child predators avoid being put in jail at all.

Disgraced Kansas City, Missouri police officer, Vincent A. Spilker is a vile disgusting human whose actions victimized countless children. He admitted guilt to trafficking in child pornography, clearly illustrating that he is a danger to society. However, unlike those who get caught with a little bit of a plant, Spilker won’t be going to jail. Instead, he is a free man, on probation.

“Mr. Spilker accepts full responsibility for this offense,” his attorney, John O’Conner, said in court documents. “He has tremendous remorse and regret for his behavior. He desires and will participate in any treatment program offered to him.”

Despite the state of Missouri asking the judge for 10 years in jail, the court sentenced him to probation instead. According to KMBC:

"If Spilker violates probation over the next five years he would face 10 years in prison. He will be required to comply with the following probation conditions: Enter and complete sex offender treatment, register as a sex offender, be subject to internet monitoring, abide by sex offender requirements and have no unsupervised contact with children under 18 years of age."

Knowing that this man is avoiding the inside of a jail cell is infuriating, especially given the nature of his crimes. According to court records, the Western Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force launched an investigation in 2019 after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The tip was an email address, which Spilker admitted to setting up so he could traffic in the child exploitation imagery. Detectives found multiple images of nude children associated with the email address and Spilker reportedly admitted that he knew what he was doing was wrong.

“Spilker said he did, in fact, repost pictures of nude and partially nude females on the account,” court documents stated. “Spilker was not sure of the amount of pictures he reposted but said the girls appeared to be under the age of eighteen. Spilker said he believes some of the girls who were nude were probably between the ages of 10 to 12 years old. Spilker said he knew reposting the pictures was wrong and he did not want to be the kind of person who shared pictures of nude young girls.”

Yet he was the kind of person who did it, and he was posting the pictures.

What’s more, when authorities executed a search warrant, for Spilker’s devices they found utterly horrifying images and videos. One of the videos showed an adult male holding down and raping an 8-year-old girl, who was crying, according to prosecution documents.

Other files, according to court documents, contained images of the sexual abuse of children as young as 3-years-old.

Does this sound like someone who deserves probation?

Anyone who would choose to view such content is a danger to society and should not be a part of it. However, somehow, Spilker’s attorney convinced the court that his client was not a threat.

Sadly, this appears to be par for the course when it comes to prosecuting child predators — especially police officer child predators.

Earlier this year we reported on the case of officer Brad Schuhmann, 32.

Despite horrifying details coming out in the case against Schuhmann, he was granted a sweetheart plea deal in which he will avoid jail for sexually abusing a little girl in the department’s explorer program.

According to his indictment, Schuhmann willfully deprived the victim of liberty without due process of law, which includes the “right not to have her bodily integrity violated by a person acting under color of law.”

Nevertheless, Schuhmann was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Rebecca Jennings Grady on Wednesday to just six months of home confinement and two years of probation, the Courier Journal reported. He must also register as a sex offender.

The victim called Schuhmann a “monster” and a “predator” in an impact statement and said “this man robbed me of my goals.”

Like Spilker, Schuhmann was never punished for his crimes against children.

Cop Kills Innocent Man, Gets Convicted of Murder, Doesn’t Get Fired, and Still Getting Paid

Huntsville, AL — Imagine for a moment that you are a McDonald’s employee who shot and killed a customer who came in to order some fries. Then imagine that you were convicted of murder for killing that customer. Then, imagine that after you were convicted of murder, McDonald’s kept you on the payroll but didn’t require you to come to work.

Obviously, the above scenario would never happen because McDonald’s is a private business and would lose a massive percentage of their customers if they openly employed a man who was convicted of murder. If you are not a private company, however, and are the Huntsville police department, this scenario is standard procedure and is completely fine.

In 2018, officer William Darby shot and killed Jeffrey Parker. He was convicted of murder in May and not only has he yet to be fired — he is still collecting a paycheck!

Documents obtained through an open records request show that Darby remains employed by the police department and has been paid about $2,100 before taxes every two weeks since his conviction, AL.com reported.

"The records show that Darby has been on sick leave since a jury found him guilty two months ago. He is off work under the Family and Medical Leave Act, a federal law requiring employers to allow workers unpaid extended time off for medical or family reasons.

The most recent pay records, from mid-June, show that Darby is paid about $2,162 before taxes every two weeks.

The city also appears to have asked other police officers to donate accrued sick leave while Darby awaits sentencing.

Police department employees received an email asking them to donate leave time to an unnamed employee with an undisclosed medical condition. AL.com reviewed the email, which was sent from Chief Mark McMurray’s email account on May 20 — less than two weeks after Darby’s conviction."

Darby was charged with killing Parker, 49, at his home in April 2018. Darby shot Parker as he sat in his home with a gun to his own head, talking to another Huntsville police officer, Genisha Pegues who did not see him as a threat. Parker had called 911 and told a dispatcher he planned to shoot himself. The shooting was captured on body camera footage and showed that Darby’s use of force was entirely unjustified.

During the trial, Pegues testified that she was de-escalating the situation when Darby barged in and killed Parker. As the body camera footage showed, Darby grabbed a shotgun from his car, kicked in the door, yelled at his fellow cop to point her gun at Parker and then shot Parker in the face with a shotgun, killing him — all within a few seconds. Parker never once pointed the gun at anyone but himself.

“An innocent man was murdered,” Tim Gann, Madison County’s chief trial attorney, told the jury at the time of Darby’s trial. “He called for help and he got Ben Darby.”

After being shown the footage and the facts, the jury took just two hours to deliver the guilty verdict.

Following Parker’s death in 2018, Darby was placed on desk duty and continued to work despite facing murder charges. On May 7, Darby was convicted of murder for killing Parker and despite this conviction, he is still collecting a paycheck. Instead of firing him, the police chief defended the killer cop.

“We are in the first stages of shock,” Chief McMurray said in a statement. “While we thank the jury for their service in this difficult case, I do not believe Officer Darby is a murderer.”

He added, “Officers are forced to make split-second decisions every day, and Officer Darby believed his life and the lives of other officers were in danger. Any situation that involves a loss of life is tragic. Our hearts go out to everyone involved.”

Though he’s been on desk duty since the murder, after his conviction, Darby was allowed to go on paid leave and is still collecting his taxpayer-funded paycheck. According to city spokeswoman Lucy DeButy, this is completely normal.

“This is the normal process until formal proceedings under the City of Huntsville’s personnel policies and procedures are complete,” she said in a statement.

Imagine not being able to fire a convicted murderer whose salary you pay — this is the situation every taxpayer in Huntsville is currently facing.

According to court records, after Darby became a convicted murderer he then posted a $100,000 bail and walked out of the court room a free, and apparently gainfully employed police officer.

Adding insult to special treatment is the fact that because Darby was cleared by his department after they investigated themselves, the taxpayers will not only be forced to pay out a settlement but they were also forced to pay for Darby’s defense team.

Darby is facing a minimum of 20 years in prison and has a sentencing scheduled for August 20. He is free on bond and currently collecting his taxpayer funded check.

Given that the mayor has already made a statement that Darby should appeal, it is highly possible that this convicted murderer will remain a cop on the taxpayer dime until that appeal, which could also be funded by the taxpayers.

Rockland, ME — In the study of psychology, there is a term for those who hurt animals for personal pleasure. It is called intentional animal torture and cruelty and even has its own initialism, IATC. Psychologists have long studied the reasons behind why a person would intentionally harm an animal and the types of people associated with this behavior are often society’s worst. So, when two police officers beat porcupines to death with their batons, while another films it, it should certainly raise some red flags.

Last year, TFTP reported on two cops who filmed themselves beating porcupines to death and this week, they were finally held accountable — sort of. On Thursday, two former Rockland cops were sentenced to jail for beating a dozen porcupines to death with their batons while on duty.

While it is common knowledge that police officers kill dogs on a regularly basis, many folks don’t realize that cops also kill lots of small animals in sadistic ways as well.

In October, two Rockland police officers were arrested for animal cruelty for torturing and beating several porcupines to death — for fun. The animal cruelty charges were also accompanied by multiple night hunting violations for how and when the animals were beaten to death.

Addison Cox, 27, of Warren and Michael A. Rolerson, 30, of Searsmont were both charged Oct. 2 with Class C aggravated animal cruelty and a misdemeanor count of night hunting. Cox was also charged with misdemeanor unlawful use or possession of implements or aids. Rolerson was charged with misdemeanor illuminating wild animals or birds.

A third officer, Officer Kenneth Smith, was not charged nor fired despite filming the act and sharing it with other officers on Snapchat. According to the department, Smith is currently on administrative leave for another incident. According to the Village Soup, Smith is accused of posting a video of Rolerson killing a porcupine to Snapchat in June of 2020.The felony charges were dropped and each officer was found guilty on misdemeanor animal cruelty and night hunting before promptly receiving their wrist slaps.

                                                                According to the Press Herald:

"Rolerson was sentenced to 270 days in jail with all but 20 days suspended. He was also placed on probation for six months and fined $1,000.

Cox was sentenced to 90 days in jail with all but 10 days suspended. He was placed on administrative release for six months and fined $1,000."

There were multiple officers in the Snapchat group, however, it appears that only one cop thought that beating innocent porcupines to death was horrific enough to report.

                                                                As the Village Soup reports:

"One officer told the investigator that most of the photos posted on the Snapchat groups were of family and were done to boost morale, which fell since the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

In early June, a video was posted of Rolerson using his baton and beating something on the ground, then returning to the cruiser saying, “I got him.” A photo was then posted of a dead porcupine. Rolerson and another officer said Smith was the officer who posted the video.

Smith denied posting the video during an interview with the investigator but said he had posted many photos to the Snapchat groups. Once a Snapchat video is played it disappears.

Another officer told the investigators that at another time, he was in a cruiser with Rolerson on Bog Road in Rockland, when Rolerson suddenly slammed on the brakes, ran out of the cruiser, leaving the door open and beat a porcupine.

The fellow officer told the investigator he did not know what to do.

Rolerson told other officers he would sometimes pepper spray the porcupines before or after beating them."

Highlighting the problem of police protecting their own is the fact that the whistleblower officer, Anne Griffith, who came forward with the allegations, was alone in her stance. Not a single one of the other cops who witnessed the killing, watched the videos or knew about it, said a thing.

“Not only are these acts in violation of law and policy, they are also a disturbing representation of his character made known to his fellow officers, especially those who witnessed the events. Several of the officers, if not all, were lower in rank than Officer Rolerson.

“This was not dispatching a deer that was hit by a car, this was not dispatching a pest animal that may be a threat to humans or domesticated animals. These porcupines were in their natural habitat and causing no harm. Officer Rolerson not only chased the animal into the woods to kill it, but returned with a smile on his face and appeared as though he enjoyed it,” according to an Aug. 29 statement from Officer Griffith to her supervisor.

“I am sickened and embarrassed by the actions taken by Officer Rolerson, Officer Cox and Officer Smith. I am ashamed that their actions were witnessed or known by younger, less experienced officers,” Officer Griffith stated at the time.

It wasn’t just those two porcupines either, during the trial, Rolerson estimated he killed eight porcupines and Cox said he killed three.

According to Knox County District Attorney Natasha Irving, the officers got off with wrist slaps because they both served in the USMC and were combat veterans receiving care for PTSD in the VA. Superior Court Justice Bruce Mallonee also brought up the officers’ service to the community as cops as a reason for the lax sentence.

Picayune, MS — Several years ago, the FBI began a program called Endangered Child Alert Program (ECAP) as a means of identifying unknown child rapists who appear in child sexual exploitation videos or imagery. The FBI, in partnership with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children work together to find and arrest these monsters who are apparently so brazen, they post their own sexual abuse of children on the internet.

ECAP uses images of the offenders’ faces and/or distinguishing characteristics that are visible in child pornography images to identify these assailants. The images are posted on the ECAP website and the predators are identified and prosecuted.

For the last five months, the FBI has been seeking the public’s assistance in obtaining identifying information on a John Doe, who appeared in a child sexual exploitation video. According to the FBI, the video was first recorded by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in February 2021. The EXIF data embedded within the video files indicated that the files were produced prior to November 2018.According to the FBI, the John Doe was approximately a 30-40-year-old white male with light brown hair, who spoke English. The predator’s picture was posted to the ECAP website and soon after, this sicko was positively identified. He was a sergeant in the Picayune Police Department.

Sgt. Joshua Stockstill was fired last week just after being taken into custody by federal agents in connection to the aforementioned sexual exploitation investigation, according to Police Chief Freddy Drennan.

According to Assistant Chief James Bolton, Stockstill did not turn himself in but he would not release any further details.

“Once we learned that there was an investigation going on, the police department cooperated 100% with the investigation fully,” said Drennan.

According to authorities, the video in question involved Stockstill and an unknown child. No details about the level of abuse have been detailed, though sources say that at some point in the video he can be heard saying “9 years old.” However, we can assume that they were serious for Stockstill to be placed on the FBI’s most wanted list.

The FBI also stated that Stockstill “may have critical information pertaining to the identity of a child victim in an ongoing sexual exploitation investigation.”

A news release from NCMEC said:

“Every day, we analyze images of child sexual abuse with the hope of identifying a clue that will lead us to the location where a child is being abused. One of the most useful clues is when we find an adult face in the imagery. Law enforcement can make that information publicly available during their investigation.

“When Shelley’s team comes across CSAM with a visible face, like John Doe 44, they pass it along to the FBI’s Endangered Child Alert Program and to the Department of Homeland Security Investigations’ Operation Predator team. In some cases, law enforcement chooses to distribute the photo to the public with the hope that someone will recognize the individual.

“ . . . In the case of John Doe 44, the plan worked. Within hours of the FBI releasing his photo to the public, he was identified and arrested.”

As this video was made over three years ago, there very well could be other victims.
