Crazy thing to me is top 3 winners are all potential scammers with multiple accounts (and god only knows how many others that entered the contest). Landing 4th underneath the winner who admitted to scamming and 2 other posters that are peculiar accounts with barely any post history makes me wonder. A handle and an ip address don't mean shit for verification from my perspective. Post history of some sort should be heavily considered into the equation for assisting an verifying a payout over a certain amount of money, before it's made in my opinion. Make no mistake, I appreciate what's done here for members and all, and am grateful to win anything... this is just the opinion from the viewpoint of an honest poster who was unknowingly competing for the top for at least 4 weeks against a scammer(s), while also having a little more vested into the site than contests.

I get what Shari is trying to say... by paying the 1st place winner. There's also a side of me that says... well... we have a shi#load of things to sort out... and it's UNFAIR to the participants who played by the rules. Should of at least thought it through a few days... possibly a week... before making a decision for the 1st place winner. Everyone would of waited for all places to be paid.... I mean... sh#$ it's free money anyways.

again, the only question is "where is the line" on sharing picks with another legitimate, separate member i.d.? we all know it happens, hell, it could be said to happen even in threads on the site?

it's a slippery slope when you start saying one sharp shared his knowledge with other members, who all played the sharp's picks, and won to varying degrees.... we all kind of know that pooling picks, with an agreement to share winnings, probably crosses the line, but where is that line drawn?

what do the rules say about sharing info/picks with other legit account users?


obviously, one user using his/her own ghost accounts crosses the line and should result in dq/forfeiture/banning, but when it involves buddies like rudy and dawgy, for example, discussing plays and one tailing the other, that would seem to be ok in most instances..... there's apparently quite a grey area....

ps.... not accusing either rudy or the dawg of doin' anything improper, just using them as an example of the difficulty in policing / enforcing anything beyond banning ghost account users

As is your point... regardless, there is going to be a line drawn by the powers that be this year. My food for thought is primarily a more diligent verification process for higher payouts. BTP payout structure is pretty freakin' generous for those who finish in top 50 imo... so one persons value of a payout could be different than another, but with this payout structure in this contest particularly (if they decide to do it this way again)... the top 8 ($1000 or more payout) could have had a more stringent verification process. That said...

I also think the payout structure should be more heavily paid out to the top 25 moving forward. 26 thru 100 shouldn't see more than 200 bucks or so imo. Distribute more to the top 25 and have a stronger verification process... whatever that may be.

The initial account was restricted for being a troll and annoying other members, and some of the staff. Members are generally only perma-banned ("perma" in forumville is normally a year or two, depending the offense) for serious infractions. Derailer wasn't barred from future contests for having a handle previously.

That’s always been the case though. If you were banned for being a right pain in the arse at one point and are eventually let back you’re not banned from contests. If you were a wannabe tout or a severe head case your PMs will be restricted but that’s about it. We don’t prevent members from entering contests.

Do you have a suggestion as to an alternative way to handle it? We’re always open to ideas!
