The 2026 World Cup Round of 32 is here. The first match features two teams in uncharted territory, as South Africa and Canada get set to make their debuts in the knockout round at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Sunday.

My South Africa vs. Canada prediction backs the -143 Les Rouges to progress to the Round of 32 in a low-scoring match against the +425 underdog. Our World Cup predictions also back Jonathan David to add to his goal tally when the action begins at 3 p.m. ET on FOX.

⚽ Who will win South Africa vs. Canada?

It wasn't how Canada wanted to end the group stage, but a loss to Switzerland, resulting in a second-place finish in Group B, has given the 2026 World Cup co-host a manageable assignment in the Round of 32 against South Africa.

Despite losing home-field advantage and being forced to play in another country, Canada's talent and creativity give it the edge over a South Africa team that hasn't faced an attack as fast as coach Jesse Marsch's team.

Canada will aim to control possession and apply a high-pressing approach, while South Africa will rely on a defensive scheme that frustrated opponents in Group A during a surprise win over South Korea and a draw with Czechia.

Score prediction: Canada 1, South Africa 0

💵 My best bet: Under 2.5 goals (-150)

Canada has already broken multiple attacking records at this World Cup, but we're expecting a more reserved approach in the Round of 32. Although Canada is the favorite to beat South Africa, Marsch is unlikely to take any risks that could jeopardize an already historic World Cup campaign.

South Africa is also going to be risk-averse in a game where one mistake can end World Cup dreams. South Africa's attack struggled to generate chances in the opening round and finished the group stage with just two goals in three games.

🦶 Who will score in South Africa vs. Canada?

Canada will have to rely on Jonathan David again to keep its World Cup campaign alive. The Juventus striker has terrorized defenses at this World Cup, scoring a hat-trick against Qatar while proving to be a menace against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Switzerland. We're expecting him to have another big day against South Africa.

If Alphonso Davies is fit to play, there could be an increase in chances in the box for David as the Bayern Munich full-back delivers balls into the box from the left flank. Passing sequences around the box will create space for David to operate and showcase his lethal finishing. It also helps that David is Canada's go-to penalty taker.

Best South Africa vs. Canada goal-scorer pick: Jonathan David (+155 via DraftKings)

🥅 Will both teams score in South Africa vs. Canada?

We're not expecting South Africa to change the game plan that got them to this point. And because of that, Bafana Bafana is going to struggle mightily to score. Hugo Broos' side has prioritized defense at the expense of an attack that's struggled to generate scoring opportunities.

South Africa is likely to absorb pressure from Canada for a majority of the game, hoping to catch Marsch's side on the counterattack. If that fails, they'll be happy to take the game to extra time and penalties.

Both teams to score (BTTS) pick: No (-135 via DraftKings)
