Portugal vs. Spain Prediction: World Cup Picks & Best Bets (July 6)
Last Updated: July 6, 2026 6:36 AM EDT • 3 minute read X Social Google News Link
My Portugal vs. Spain prediction breaks down one of the best rivalries in the world game. It takes place today from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, as Portugal and Spain square off for the right to advance to the quarterfinals.
I'm backing La Roja as I expect the betting favorite to shut the door on Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. I'm also featuring Mikel Oyarzabal in my World Cup best bets. The action starts at 3 p.m. ET (FOX, Telemundo, FOX One).

⚽ Who will win Portugal vs. Spain?
Spain has been exceptional since its 0-0 draw with Cabo Verde in the opener. And it turns out that wasn't a bad result either, as Cabo Verde proved to be a valiant opponent for every team, including Argentina in the Round of 32.
Spain won the subsequent three games by a combined 8-0. Watertight in the back, Spain rarely makes any mistakes. And if they do, it's a minor one that doesn't cost them where it counts. They also have a formidable attacking contingent led by Mikel Oyarzabal and Yamine Lamal. I like Spain to win 1-0.
Score prediction: Spain 1 - 0 Portugal
💵 My best bet: Under 2.5 goals (+105)
Spain is the only team that hasn't conceded a goal. La Roja have the best collective defense in the tournament, with arguably the world's best central midfielder (Rodri) protecting the back four.
They conceded more than one goal once in the previous 14 matches, including a run of eight straight. While Portugal has the talent to score, Spain won't be overly concerned by an attack led by the 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, who isn't nearly as sharp off the mark as he once was.

Mikel Oyarzabal, F, Spain (+150)
Mikel Oyarzabal scored seven goals in his previous six appearances for Spain, including four at the World Cup. He bagged a pair in the 3-0 win over Austria in the Round of 16 and looked dangerous throughout.
He was also Spain's top goal-scorer during qualifying, scoring six goals in as many matches. He scored at least one in five of six contests and netted the last time he played Portugal. I actually include this as one of my top World Cup predictions for Monday.
Best Portugal vs. Spain goal-scorer pick: Mikel Oyarzabal (+130 via bet365)
🥅 Will both teams score in Portugal vs. Spain?
Spain have kept a clean sheet in all four matches thus far, and I don't see Portugal breaching their watertight defense.
Neither team will want to make a mistake that costs a goal, and both squads will be on high alert with what's at stake. Excluding the match against Uzbekistan, Portugal hasn't created many chances and will struggle to find any breathing room against Spain's smothering defense.
Both teams to score (BTTS) pick: No (+120 via BetMGM)
