That performance was in stark contrast to the goal, two assists, and eight shots he had against the Red Wings in the first meeting. Werenski has eight assists in the last 11 games, which included at least one helper in seven of nine contests preceding last week's tilt against Dallas.

The Red Wings have been exceptional under McLellan's inspirational stewardship. No team has been better in enemy barns since he took charge at the end of December.

Detroit will dearly miss Andrew Copp, ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing pectoral surgery, but its leadership group has shown more than enough character in recent months not to expect a forceful response after getting handled 5-2 by these very same Blue Jackets two days ago.
