Tyreek Hill has been a bona fide fantasy football stud for many years. Hill is no longer going in the first round of most drafts, however, after a relatively down year last season. Personal issues, his age, his murky future with the Miami Dolphins, and injury issues are all giving fantasy football owners pause for concern. Hill is currently nursing an oblique injury, and his status for Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium is not yet certain. So, when will Hill be back on the field for the Dolphins? We will dish out a Tyreek Hill injury update below and look at a potential date for his return.

🩹 When will Tyreek Hill return and be back with Dolphins?

Hill missed Dolphins practice on Aug. 6 due to an oblique injury and has practiced sparingly ever since. The mercurial WR did not play in any of the Dolphins’ three preseason games.

Miami has maintained that Hill’s injury is simply from overuse and that the wide receiver wants to practice.

“He’s trying to practice,” Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said earlier this month, according to David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “He’s working through an oblique that got worse because he was taking every rep that was on the books.

“He’s trying to sneak his way into every rep.”

This appears to be purely a precautionary measure by the Dolphins to keep him out for the brunt of August. Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said as much on WSVN-7 Miami on Aug. 24. Rosenhaus said that Hill “will be ready to play” Week 1 when the Dolphins take on the Colts in Indianapolis, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

So, barring a setback, expect Hill to be ready for the start of the season.

Here is a look at what Hill and the Dolphins will be up against early in the season.

  • Week 1 Sunday, September 7: Miami Dolphins at Indianapolis Colts
  • Week 2 Sunday, September 14: New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins
  • Week 3 Thursday, September 18: Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills
  • Week 4 Monday, September 29: New York Jets at Miami Dolphins

⏳ How long will Tyreek Hill be out for?

The Dolphins have not put any sort of timeline on Hill in terms of recovery time. That said, this injury appears to be a mild tear, which typically takes just 1-2 weeks to fully recover from.

It is likely that if this injury occurred in-season, that Hill would play through it.

Fellow WR Amon-Ra St. Brown recently stated that he played most of the 2023 NFL season with a torn oblique. A mild oblique strain is just something most NFL players play through during the season.

Hill was seen pulling his teammate, WR Dee Eskridge, out of a practice scrum earlier this month. That is certainly not something a player who was seriously injured would do.

🏈 Tyreek Hill fantasy football draft position

Despite a drop-off in production last season and this current injury, Hill is still going in Round 2, Round 3 or Round 4 of most fantasy football drafts.

Hill played in all 17 games last season for Miami but racked up “just” 959 yards and 6 receiving TDs. It was his lowest yardage total since 2019.

Hill is now 31-years-old and has been the subject of trade rumors in recent months. Should the Dolphins’ season go south early in the campaign, Miami GM Chris Grier could look to trade Hill.
