The first true week of conference play is finally underway in the 2023-24 college basketball schedule, and Wednesday promises a handful of compelling matchups between conference foes.
The biggest game of the night features ACC rivals Clemson and Miami, with the former expected to contend for a conference crown against a team that topped the league standings a year ago.
That said, the Pac-12 nightcap offers just as much intrigue, as USC freshman Bronny James is coming off his best collegiate performance to date. He scored 15 points against Oregon State on Saturday, but can he maintain that momentum at home against California?

Wednesday’s college basketball player props
Bronny James Over 5.5 points (-125 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐
There is a very real chance that Bronny James does the typical freshman thing by following up his best performance with a dud. But I'm choosing to believe he will stay in a rhythm, particularly considering the context ahead of this matchup.
USC (6-7) has lost two in a row, but has a chance to get back in the win column against a struggling California (4-9) team at home. The market makes the Trojans two-possession favorites, but ShotQuality actually projects them to win by 15 points.
If ShotQuality's projections are more accurate, perhaps we get some extended run for James in the second half even though he continues to play on a minutes restriction. James played a season-high 20 minutes last time out.
James is averaging seven points per game so far this season, but he's only cleared this mark in two of five collegiate contests. He has finished with five points on two different occasions despite not taking a lot of shots thus far.
The biggest part of this handicap is James' most-recent shot diet. He attempted 11 shots against Oregon State, which included a 2-for-6 effort from long range. James has now attempted 13 3-pointers over his last three outings, which bodes well for this matchup.
According to ShotQuality, California ranks 301st in Open 3 Rate and is 325th with a defensive 3-point percentage of 36.8%. This sets up an opportunity for James and Co. to get plenty of looks from the perimeter.
FanDuel is the lone shop offering props for James ahead of tipoff, but this is our favorite angle rather than paying the -174 price for Bronny to hit one triple. There is a tantalizing +225 offering on 2-plus 3-pointers for James, and we don't mind sprinkling a bit on that for some extra fun.
