Top Vermont sports betting apps reviewed

House Bill H.127, approved by the House in May 2023 and signed into law by Gov. Phil Scott one month later, stipulates that the state can authorize a minimum of two and a maximum of six online sports in the new Vermont sports betting industry.

DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics were the trio of operators that launched in Vermont on Jan. 11, 2024, and are currently still the only three available. I expect ESPN BET and BetMGM to join the Vermont market later in 2024, as they have both applied for a state betting license.

With such a limited number of competitors, only the best sportsbooks are available. I tested all the available apps and ranked them accordingly. I even included a few of the potential sportsbooks that might launch in Vermont in the near future.

1. DraftKings Vermont betting app 👑

DraftKings tops our list of Vermont betting apps, as it offers the full package. The highly functional mobile app provides beginner-friendly navigation and an effortless place bet process.

Aside from featuring a highly functional app, DraftKings has a superior sportsbook overall. It offers excellent pricing, competitive odds, and one of the broadest range of betting options among U.S. sportsbooks. It's especially great for live micro-betting and futures.

Bettors who prefer data-driven decisions will love the sportsbook’s Stats Hub, which hosts a treasure trove of data and trends to analyze. Meanwhile, there are plenty of Pool games for those who like making predictions against others. The welcome offer is also quite generous, as new bettors can bet $5 and get $200 in bonus bets.

Be sure to read our in-depth DraftKings review for even more information about this VT sportsbook.

2. FanDuel Vermont betting app 🔵

FanDuel is neck-and-neck with DraftKings, and giving it the number one spot wouldn't be out of line. The two are so close at the top of the industry that the FanDuel vs. DraftKings debate rages on endlessly among bettors.

FanDuel users love the app’s design, speed, and organization, allowing them to find and place bets quickly and easily. The sportsbook is famous for having the most robust same-game parlay (SGP) options and posting many daily odds boosts.

Like DraftKings, it offers plenty of options in the props and live betting department, while its pricing is often better than most other betting apps. FanDuel's welcome bonus adds some flair as well, with a bet $5, get $150 in bonus bets offer that will surely have you on the edge of your seat. Remember, only a qualifying bet of $5 or more activates the bonus.

3. Fanatics Vermont betting app 🧢

Fanatics Sportsbook came about after acquiring PointsBet’s U.S. operations in mid-2023. Before that, Fanatics was mostly known as North America's largest online sports apparel and merchandise retailer. Now, they are trying their hand at the online betting business.

Fanatics (formally branded as BetFanatics) has launched in 19 states now, with plans to expand quickly now that the PointsBet deal is complete. Vermont is just one of the new states it's available in.

The sportsbook uses Amelco's betting tech and boasts a great overall offering with a robust market range, competitive pricing, useful features like Early Cashout, live streams of NFL games, and more.

Fanatics has also connected its sports betting product with its main sports merchandise business by linking FanCash. It's a customer loyalty program that offers a percentage of all purchases and wagers back as FanCash, which can then be used to make bonus bets or buy Fanatics merchandise products.

Our Fanatics Sportsbook review offers even more insight into this emerging industry powerhouse.

Potential future Vermont sports betting apps

With only three sports betting apps launching in Vermont at the start, there is still room in the state for up to three more. BetMGM and ESPN BET have both already applied for a license, so I fully expect to see them join the Vermont betting scene in the near future. The sixth and final betting license remains a mystery, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Caesars or bet365 pop up and fill out the list of Vermont sportsbooks.

Here's a closer look at some of the sports betting apps you'll probably see in Vermont soon:

BetMGM Vermont betting app 🦁

(Editor's Note: BetMGM have not announced plans to launch in the Vermont market yet.)

BetMGM is another attractive potential mobile betting app option for Vermont bettors. Its sports menu and bet slip have a nice layout, and the app is responsive and not prone to any lags or glitches. The sportsbook’s core strengths lie in great features such as 'Edit My Bet' and 'Easy Parlay,' live streams of various events, and plenty of odds and profit boosts.

New users are greeted with the biggest promotion in the region — up to $1,500 in first-bet insurance. Just use the BetMGM promo code SBRBONUS when registering to activate it.

The BetMGM app also gets extra points for being very light, only taking up around 100 megabytes. Our full BetMGM review offers more information about this potential VT sports betting app.

5. ESPN Bet Vermont betting app 🏈

(Editor's note: ESPN BET have not announced plans to launch in the Vermont market yet.)

ESPN BET is gearing up to be a major force in legal sports betting after going live in 17 states in November 2023 and adding North Carolina as an 18th in March 2024. With the incredible brand name clout of ESPN and the technology of PENN Entertainment (who also power TheScoreBet in Ontario), this new sportsbook product could give DraftKings and FanDuel a real challenge at the top of the mountain.

On September 15, 2023, ESPN BET applied for an online betting license from the Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery. However, they were not ready on Day One of legal sports betting in the state, which kicked off on Jan. 11, 2024.

ESPN Bet's standard welcome bonus is up to $600 in bonuses for new players. We expect them to potentially bring that to Vermont as a bare minimum. They may also switch it up to celebrate a launch in a new state. If things change, we'll let you know.

In the meantime, our ESPN Bet review has all the details about this emerging sports betting app.

How to get started with Vermont sports betting apps

Getting started with Vermont sports betting apps is a piece of cake. It's as simple as downloading an app to your smartphone or tablet, making an account, and depositing some money to wager with. In this section, I'll provide you with a step-by-step guide to get started:

How to download Vermont sports betting apps

Before you can bet on your mobile device in Vermont, you must download and install one of the abovementioned apps. All top-level sportsbooks in the U.S. have proprietary apps available for both iOS and Android devices, and their setup is simple.

iOS Vermont betting apps

We have you covered if you plan on betting via your Apple device, like an iPhone or iPad:

  • Open the App Store on your iOS device.
  • Search for the sportsbook of your choice with the search bar.
  • Tap the 'Get' button to start the download.
  • You may need to verify your identity with Face/Touch ID or by typing in your password.
  • The mobile betting app you choose will download and install on your device. Tap the app icon to launch it.
  • Ensure you have enough storage space on your device and a compatible version of the iOS operating system.

Android Vermont betting apps

The process for installing a Vermont sports betting app on your Android device is almost exactly the same as on iOS:

  • Open the Google Play Store on your device.
  • Search for the sportsbook you want, like "DraftKings" or "Fanatics."
  • Tap 'Install' to initiate the download. Enter your password if prompted.
  • Launch the app on your home screen by tapping the icon once the app has been installed.
  • Ensure you have adequate storage space and a compatible version of Android.

If you want to skip the App or Google Play Store completely, you can also find direct download links for the apps on the sportsbook's mobile websites. These will take you directly to the correct app, so you don't have to worry about downloading an imposter or unofficial app.

How to use Vermont betting apps

Now that you’re familiar with the download process, there's only one thing left to do: pick the betting app you want to try first and start making wagers. This process entails several easy steps, which I will review in detail now.

1. Choose a sports betting app

Pick one of the available sports betting apps. There are only three to choose from so far, so you shouldn’t struggle with this choice too long. Better yet, you can set up an account at multiple sportsbooks and download several betting apps, allowing you to switch from one app to another, taking advantage of better odds or special offers.

2. Sign up

You’ll be asked to create an account when opening the app. You can likely use the same login if you've previously used the app in a different legal betting state.

Otherwise, the operator must confirm your identity, so you must provide basic personal information such as your full name, DOB, phone number, social security number, and more. In most cases, your account is activated almost instantly.

3. Deposit

Head to the 'Deposit' section to create a starting bankroll. Pick your preferred banking method from a variety of convenient options. All Vermont betting apps support standard options like debit cards, e-wallets, and online bank transfers. Interestingly, Vermont legislation forbids using credit cards to fund online sportsbook accounts. Minimum deposits are usually $5 or $10, and the payments go through almost instantly.

4. Place your bet

Browse the app’s betting menu to see all the available sports and competitions. For instance, you can head to the Basketball section, pick the NBA, and tap on the Boston Celtics vs. Toronto Raptors game. Scroll through the available betting options and see the associated odds. Tap the one you like. For example, you might see the Celtics to cover the 7.5-point spread at -120.

Keep your potential welcome bonus in mind when making your first wager. Many of these offers are tied to a minimum first bet or offer your first stake back via bonus bets if you lose.

5. Collect the bonus

While registering, you may see a box prompting you to type in a promo code. Use the verified promo codes from our table above to access the sportsbook’s welcome bonus, if applicable. From there, follow the instructions on activating the offer, usually by depositing and laying down your first wager.

Bonus bets cannot be withdrawn as cash, only used to make additional wagers. Watch out for expiration dates, as most bonus bets disappear after a week or two.

6. Withdraw

To withdraw your winnings, head back to the 'Cashier' section, pick a payment method, and type in the amount you want to cash out. The operator typically needs one to two days to review your withdrawal request before approving it. Sportsbooks usually don’t charge withdrawal fees, but your payment provider might.

Once your cash-out request is approved, you can expect it to take two to seven days to hit your account.

Sports available on Vermont betting apps

Vermont betting apps feature a variety of popular and niche competitions. A top-level sportsbook typically offers betting on over 25 sports, from football and basketball to table tennis, snooker, and even esports. Even though I'm not likely to bet on 25+ different sports at once, I still notice (and appreciate) when a sportsbook goes above and beyond to offer me the most diverse options.

Football 🏈

Football, particularly the NFL, is the most popular sport for betting, especially during the Fall/Winter seasons when the pro and college seasons are in full swing. You can bet on everything from moneyline winners and point spreads to the tiniest of in-play props, like whether the next play will be a run or pass. Be sure to brush up on our weekly best NFL picks for expert betting advice from seasoned veterans.

Basketball 🏀

From NBA and NCAA to Euroleague and popular FIBA competitions, Vermont betting apps will be full to the brim with basketball betting markets. Aside from standard moneyline and over/under betting markets, you can typically find a swath of player and game props, like odds for LeBron James posting a triple-double or Steph Curry draining at least seven three-pointers. Browse our NBA picks and check out the best NBA betting sites before you get started.

Baseball ⚾

There’s no shortage of baseball betting markets, either. The MLB season is one of the most extensive in terms of the sheer number of games played. There’s an almost endless array of betting opportunities from March to November. See our MLB picks page for daily expert tips.

Hockey 🏒

Vermont has a strong hockey fanbase, even without an NHL team. Luckily, the best VT sports betting apps feature plenty of hockey markets. There's a huge variety of NHL bets to browse and plenty of foreign leagues and international competitions, like the Swedish Hockey League or the IIHF World Championships. Vermont will host a number of the best NHL betting sites, so watch for our expert NHL picks all season long.

Soccer ⚾

Due to its widespread global appeal, soccer is on every sportsbook’s menu in a big way. Explore popular markets like the three-way moneyline and dynamic live betting options like “team to score next.”

Vermont betters can find all the biggest European leagues, like the English Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1. There are also lower-tier leagues worldwide, plus an entire market devoted to MLS, the top domestic league in the U.S. We update our soccer picks page constantly, so it's a great place to get some expert intel. Then, see which sportsbooks made our list of the best soccer betting sites.

Tennis 🎾

You can bet on the four majors and many smaller-level ATP and WTA tournaments. Every match has a vast range of wagers, so you don't have to stick with just tournament winners.

For major Grand Slam events, you can even micro-bet down to who will win the next point.

MMA/boxing 🥊

Blockbuster MMA fight nights and boxing spectacles fill all the best betting apps in Vermont. You can wager on the winner, method of victory, number of rounds, or other exciting prop markets. We've gone through the effort of ranking the best boxing betting sites and the best UFC betting sites, giving Vermont fight fans all the info they could possibly need.

Other sports ⛳

The best Vermont sports betting apps don't stop there. Most of them have 20+ different sports betting markets to choose from, including golf, motorsports, badminton, Aussie Rules Football, international rugby, darts, billiards, futsal, jai alai, handball, volleyball, table tennis, and almost anything else you can imagine. And we have expert advice for all of them, over in our More Picks section.

Vermont sports teams to bet on

Vermont has no teams competing in the four biggest North American professional sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL). That said, the University of Vermont does field competitive college teams. However, betting on in-state college teams in VT is prohibited unless the team plays in a major multi-state tournament, such as March Madness.

Some big pro teams in neighboring states do attract the Vermont audience, though. The Montreal Canadiens and their 24 Stanley Cup wins sit just North in the Canadian province of Montreal. Stateside, the Boston Celtics, Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, and Boston Red Sox all have a contingent of VT fans. New York teams also do reasonably well in Vermont.

How to choose the best Vermont sports betting app

Even though you’re free to join multiple Vermont betting apps, you’re still likely to stick with one or two of your favorites. If you want to pick the right sportsbook, you should take the time to compare all the available brands and fully test their key characteristics, like design, features, payout speed, and more. At the very least, I like to try and capitalize on multiple welcome bonuses before I pick which sportsbooks will settle in as my regular preference.

User Experience

Get a feel for how the app performs on your mobile device. Is it easy to find your desired games and place bets? Do the pages load quickly? Does the app have any bugs and annoy you with unexpected logouts? It is important to get the answers to these questions and compare the apps, seeing which provides the best overall user experience.

Interface

An app’s interface should be easy on the eyes and give players quick access to all the important aspects of the sportsbook. It should feature good data density and show many games and markets on a single screen without requiring the user to scroll far or go to a different page.

However, the app must also hit that sweet spot, as displaying excessive information on a single page can make it look cluttered.

Features

Check out which app has features that most suit your betting style. Are you prone to having a change of heart? Consider an app with the best Early Cashout and bet editing features like BetMGM. Are same-game parlays (SGP) your forte? Check out FanDuel, as it arguably has the best SGP and SGP+ options in the business.

Bet types

If you’re mostly betting moneylines, spreads, and totals, you can’t go wrong with just about any app. However, suppose you like experimenting with different types of props and special live betting options. In that case, you should take some time to explore all the possibilities since different sportsbooks offer different market depths.

For instance, DraftKings is great for anyone who likes micro-betting. It features ultra-time-sensitive bets like predicting what happens in the next basketball play or the outcome of the next point in a tennis match.

Payout speed

All licensed betting apps will take a day or two to review your withdrawal requests before sending you the money (some quicker than others).

Payout policies should be clearly outlined, so compare them and see which sportsbook promises to deliver your winnings in the shortest time frame. Fortunately, most of the best Vermont sports betting apps also made our list of the fastest payout sportsbooks.

Banking options

The list of accepted banking methods is similar across most licensed U.S. betting apps. However, it is worth checking whether a given sportsbook accepts a payment option you prefer, along with the deposit and withdrawal limits associated with that method.

Registering an account

Joining a sportsbook through a mobile app should be easy and intuitive. All the top-rated betting apps listed on this page deliver in that regard. You should still check if the betting app you like most provides easier access for its users, such as allowing Face ID logins.

Importance of multiple apps and line shopping

Sticking to a single betting app is fine — you’ll probably want one that meets your criteria and not a bunch of others that just take up storage.

However, experienced bettors usually don’t follow that logic. Instead, visit as many different sportsbooks as they can. My goal is simple — to look for the best possible odds. Sportsbooks don’t always post the exact same odds and lines. There will always be one sportsbook that offers the best value for your money. I don't know about you, but there's no way I'm going to bet with one particular sportsbook if I can get a better price somewhere else.

If you’re serious about consistently getting the highest potential profit, you should follow this strategy and go odds shopping whenever possible. After all, it only takes a few taps on your screen to switch from one app to another — minimum effort, yet maximum results.

Vermont sports betting apps rules and regulations

The key detail regarding the availability of sports betting apps in Vermont is that there will be no more than six. Also, sports betting will exist only online and via mobile devices, as there are no current plans to open retail sportsbooks.

  • Must be at least 21 to bet on sports in Vermont.
  • Must be physically located within VT state lines.
  • Must allow location services on your mobile device for geolocation purposes.

The minimum betting age in Vermont is technically 18 for things like lottery tickets. However, many sportsbooks only accept customers who are at least 21. Interestingly, a couple of the books that recently launched in Kentucky went ahead and reduced their age limit to 18 in that state to coincide with local laws. However, Vermont recently upped the age requirement for daily fantasy sports users from 18 to 21, so it's now a uniform 21+ mandate.

Betting on college sports is allowed, but you can only bet on in-state college teams if they’re playing in a major multi-state tournament. Betting on politics is also banned, as it is everywhere else in the United States. However, betting on esports is allowed, while entertainment awards betting remains a legal grey area in Vermont.

  • Betting on politics ❌
  • Betting on esports ✅
  • Betting on college sports ✅ (some limits apply)
  • Betting on entertainment awards ❓
