Trail Blazers fans and fantasy basketball owners are anxiously awaiting news on when Shaedon Sharpe will return to the court. Sharpe has not played since Feb. 6 as the 22-year-old is dealing with a stress reaction of the left fibula. Below, we will deliver a Sharpe injury update and look at when he is expected to be back.
⏳ When will Shaedon Sharpe return and be back with Trail Blazers?
Sharpe initially went down with a left calf strain but follow-up imaging revealed a stress reaction of the left fibula. The Trail Blazers announced this on Feb. 24 and said that he would be re-evaluated in approximately 4-6 weeks before “beginning a progressive return to full basketball activity.” Sharpe is running out of time if his intent is to return during the regular season.
Four weeks from when the Blazers made this announcement would be March 24, and six weeks from that date would be April 7. The Blazers’ regular season ends on Sunday, April 12.
Portland does have plenty of incentive to try and get Sharpe back as soon as possible. They seem destined to play in the NBA Play-In Tournament as they currently hold the 10 seed. Memphis is the next closest team to them in the Western Conference standings, and they are seven games back of the Blazers. The Blazers will undoubtedly be doing all they can to reach the playoffs as they haven’t played a postseason game since the 2020-21 season.
All of that said, the timeline for Sharpe’s injury recovery indicates that he will need a ramp up period after he is re-evaluated. There is a decent chance that Sharpe won’t play again this season.
Nonetheless, here is a look at the Blazers’ schedule down the stretch of the season. If Sharpe is to return, it would likely be in one of these games.
- Tuesday, March 31: Trail Blazers at Clippers
- Thursday, April 2: Pelicans at Trail Blazers
- Monday, April 6: Trail Blazers at Nuggets
- Wednesday, April 8: Trail Blazers at Spurs
- Friday, April 10: Clippers at Trail Blazers
- Sunday, April 12: Kings at Trail Blazers
The NBA Play-In Tournament is set to take place April 14-17, with the playoffs officially beginning on April 18.
🩹 How long will Shaedon Sharpe be out for?
It is important to note that Sharpe’s injury is a stress reaction and not a stress fracture. A stress reaction is inflammation of the bone, and is not as serious as a stress fracture.
That said, recovery from a stress reaction can take anywhere from 4-12 weeks. Sharpe’s recovery timeline looks to be on the lower end of that projection.
