The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo before Tuesday's NBA draft, and the latest Giannis trade rumors have narrowed the field to two clear favorites: the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.

The Heat have featured the best odds across prediction market apps for much of the last month and held better than a 70% chance to acquire Antetokounmpo as recently as Sunday morning, but the Celtics have surged ahead on Monday amid swirling speculation that they're "all-in" on trading for the two-time MVP from Milwaukee.

Below, I break down the latest Giannis next team odds ahead of a potential blockbuster trade that is expected to happen within 24 hours. I also dive into why the Celtics are favored, whether the Heat still have a chance, and the best long shots to trade for Giannis before offering my prediction for the Giannis trade package.

Where will Giannis play next season?

Right now, it feels like a near-certainty that Antetokounmpo will play for either the Celtics or the Heat next season with those two leading the Kalshi prediction market as of Monday. There's only a 9% chance he stays with Milwaukee or retires compared to a 91% chance that he's sent to either Boston or Miami - likely within the next 24 hours.

In early May, team owner Jimmy Haslam indicated that he wanted a resolution on the Giannis sweepstakes before the NBA draft, which begins Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET. That self-imposed deadline has reignited talks this week with ESPN's Shams Charania reporting that a deal will go down before the first round begins.

It's about time, too, as the league's biggest blockbuster trade on the horizon has been brewing for over a year now. The Bucks nearly shipped off their franchise star ahead of February's trade deadline before shutting down talks in hopes of a more fruitful package in the summer. The Heat and Celtics were both among the top suitors at that time, too.

With such little time for another trade partner to emerge and so much leaking on Monday about those two teams' pursuit of the Bucks star, it seems like a foregone conclusion that he'll be headed to one of those landing spots. And the market continues to heat up on Kalshi with roughly $6 million in trading volume as of Monday afternoon.

☘️ Will the Celtics trade for Giannis?

The Celtics have been Antetokounmpo suitors for some time now, even before he became "available" following his internal trade request in May 2025, but they've long been married to the duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown without premium assets to move outside of those two superstar forwards.

That calculus has changed: Boston seems open to moving Brown, who is coming off a borderline MVP-caliber season and would be the single-best trade target that Milwaukee could acquire in a Giannis blockbuster. The Bucks are also reportedly interested in 2025 first-round pick Hugo Gonzalez, according to NBA reporter Marc Stein, who said Boston emerged from this weekend with a "real shot" to land Antetokounmpo.

Then came ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst's report on Monday that the Celtics are "all-in" on acquiring Antetokounmpo ahead of Tuesday's draft - which coincided with a surge in the Celtics' chances in the latest prediction markets.

This is far from a done deal, though, with NBA reporter Jake Fischer saying there's a "split faction" among Milwaukee's top brass about whether to prioritize a package around Brown (and Gonzalez) over one with multiple first-round picks and other future assets.

The Bucks could opt for the Celtics' deal and then ship Brown to the highest bidder, though there's an element of risk there that could be sidestepped with a deal focused around draft picks. That's the biggest risk for Boston's position in this deal, and it's why the Heat remain such a dangerous threat as Tuesday's "deadline" nears.

🔥 Will the Heat trade for Giannis?

The Heat have been star-chasing for as long as Pat Riley has been pulling the strings, and they've been specifically tied to Antetokounmpo for years. They were among the front-runners ahead of February's trade deadline but didn't offer enough to entice Milwaukee into a midseason trade, and they remained the favorites throughout the spring.

On the likely eve of a deal, though, Miami finds itself in catch-up mode with a package built around picks and future assets but no clear centerpiece for a blockbuster. The reported offer on the table includes Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., the No. 13 pick, and possibly additional draft capital. That would seem to fit Milwaukee's preference for a true rebuild, but it also risks moving a two-time MVP for 50 cents on the dollar.

There's a chance Miami's best offer is yet to come, as Stein reported today the Heat are "trying their best" to put together a package to entice Milwaukee after falling short in similar star pursuits for Damian Lillard, Kevin Durant, and other stars. But Antetokounmpo may prefer a deal with Boston if his ultimate goal is to win a title.

It's unclear exactly what Giannis' preferences are and how much they'll factor into a deal, especially if the Celtics push their chips to the center of the table and add future draft picks alongside Brown and Gonzalez. If they don't, though, the Heat should be in position to strike ... but only if they're willing to empty the war chest to do so.

🔮 Giannis Antetokounmpo trade prediction: Where will Giannis play next season?

Follow all of our NBA analysis and expert predictions this season.

While the Heat have been the rumored favorite to trade for Antetokounmpo for months, I've remained skeptical that Milwaukee would ultimately opt for a package lacking a clear-cut centerpiece - the Bucks likely could have taken Miami's offer in February if they truly coveted a deal built around mid-tier picks and rotation guys.

It makes much more sense to me that Milwaukee general manager Jon Horst has been using the Heat's offer as leverage to extract as much value as possible from a team like the Celtics, who have the best chip in Brown and could add multiple first-round picks to the deal if they're truly "all-in" like the recent reporting suggests.

That's why I'm buying the hype and predict the Celtics will trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo ahead of Tuesday's NBA draft with a package centered around Brown, Gonzalez, and future first-round picks. You won't see as much return on your investment as you would have this morning, but that's the price of information, and there's still plenty of value on Boston anywhere between 50% and 70% until more news breaks.
