The Warriors are the second-most likely destination at 33%, followed by the Heat at 16%. Below, I break down the market for James' next team, dive deeper into the three most likely outcomes, and offer my best prediction.

Where will LeBron James play next season?

The Cavaliers have surged to a 38% probability after opening at 12% on Jan. 25. Cleveland was as low as 13.8% on Monday.

NBA insider Chris Haynes reported on Tuesday that the Cavaliers are interested in signing James, which obviously caused Yes contracts on Cleveland to spike.

The Warriors are next in line with a 33% probability. They were as high as 48.9% on Tuesday, but Haynes' report has shifted the momentum from Golden State to Cleveland.

The Heat are the third-most probable option at 16%. Yes contracts on Miami started to spike on June 23, when the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reported that the Heat could try to lure James with its full midlevel exception.

🏀 Who will sign LeBron James?

Here are James' most likely destinations (last updated July 2):

Team Probability Yes price
Cavaliers 38% 38¢
Warriors 33% 33¢
Heat 16% 16¢
76ers 6%
Nuggets 4%
Timberwolves 3%
Stays with Lakers or retires 3%
Knicks 2%
Spurs 2%
Wizards 2%

Teams not listed are projected to have less than a 1% chance of landing James.

Cavaliers (38%)

ESPN's Shams Charania reported James' interest in a return to the Cavaliers on Tuesday (along with his interest in the Warriors and Heat).

A reunion in Cleveland would benefit both sides. It would give James the opportunity to potentially finish his career with his hometown team, while the Cavaliers would have a better shot at winning an NBA championship, as long as they don't lose too many key players in the process.

If you'd like to buy Yes contracts on the Cavaliers, you can immediately get just over $80 filled at 38¢, but there is more than $4,000 in liquidity available at 39¢.

Warriors (33%)

James flirting with the idea of playing for the Warriors is nothing new, as he mentioned it in an episode of The Shop in 2022.

Draymond Green opting out of his player option for this upcoming season also helps the Warriors free up cash in their attempt to bring James to Northern California.

Yes contracts on the Warriors are available at 33¢, with more than $3,500 in liquidity available at that price.

Heat (16%)

While James returning to Miami would likely make the Heat the favorite in the Eastern Conference, their path to acquiring him would be difficult.

Giannis Antetokounmpo will make roughly $58.5 million, and Bam Adebayo is on the books for roughly $49.5 million this upcoming season. James would likely either have to take a massive pay cut to join the Heat, or they would have to shed almost all of their depth - which is already a weakness for Miami - to bring in the four-time NBA champion.

Over $2,000 in liquidity is available on Yes contracts at 16¢ for James to join the Heat.

🎯 Best prediction for LeBron James' next team

With Green opting out of his player option for the upcoming season, the Warriors have shown the strongest intent to sign James.

He has spoken in the past about wanting to play with Curry, and a move to the Bay Area wouldn’t be as drastic as uprooting his life to Miami (or, even worse, Cleveland). While a James-Curry Warriors squad may not have the depth needed to win a championship, it would be the least disruptive move for his lifestyle, and Los Angeles would be just 45–60 minutes away via private flight.

Prediction: The Warriors will be LeBron James' next team (33¢)

💰 How to use NBA prediction markets

See all of our experts' NBA picks.

What does an NBA prediction market measure?

An NBA prediction market measures the likelihood of a specific outcome - such as a player signing with or being traded to a particular team.

How do prices work?

  • Prices range from 1 cent to 99 cents
  • A 40-cent contract implies a 40% chance based on market consensus
  • If the outcome occurs, the contract settles at $1
  • If not, it settles at $0

Prices move as participants react to trade rumors, reports, and free-agency developments.

Can positions be exited early?

Yes. Contracts can typically be sold before a signing happens. That flexibility allows participants to respond to breaking news or shifts in momentum rather than holding a position until the final outcome.

How is Kalshi different from sportsbooks?

Kalshi operates as an exchange, not a house. Participants trade directly with each other, and prices are set by supply and demand instead of fixed odds.

Key distinctions include:

  • Probabilities shown in cents rather than traditional odds
  • Focus on real-world outcomes, not margins or spreads
  • Ability to adjust or close positions before resolution

Is Kalshi regulated?

Yes. Kalshi is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Market rules, settlement criteria, and contract definitions are published in advance.
