⬆️ Atlanta Hawks win total prediction: Buy 45+ wins (Yes)

I'm surprised the market isn't more bullish on the Hawks. They were the only team to win two games against the Knicks in the playoffs and finished the regular season on a 19-5 run. Nickeil Alexander-Walker won Most Improved Player this past season, and Jalen Johnson has proven himself to be a legit leader on a playoff team after averaging 22.5 PPG, 10.3 RPG, and 7.9 APG.

⬆️ Boston Celtics win total prediction: Buy 55+ wins (Yes)

The Jaylen Brown trade has surely left a sour taste in the mouths of many Celtics fans, but Paul George is still a solid two-way player, even if he is out of his prime. Per Dunks&Threes, George had a +1.3 estimated plus-minus, the exact same EPM as Brown. While he has lower upside at this point in his career, I don't expect the trade to negatively affect the team's regular-season production.

The Nets won just 20 games last season, and I don't expect the addition of Julius Randle, combined with drafting Mikel Brown Jr. out of Louisville, to add five wins to their record. Will Egor Demin take a step forward in his development during his second season? Sure, but how drastic would that step need to be for Brooklyn to win five more games?

⬇️ Charlotte Hornets win total prediction: Buy 35+ wins (No)

I don't want to overreact to the Hornets sending LaMelo Ball to the Timberwolves, but he did record the seventh-highest EPM last season at +5.1 (just behind Luka Doncic at +6.4). Let's say the glass is half-full, though, and analytics aren't everything. This team just doesn't look very dynamic on paper anymore - especially considering Kon Knueppel had 17 or fewer points in 12 of his last 15 games.

⬇️ Chicago Bulls win total prediction: Buy 30+ wins (No)

Norman Powell is projected to be the highest scorer on this team this upcoming season - that's not a great sign. Yes, the Heat won 43 games last season with Powell as their highest scorer, but it was more of a scoring-by-committee approach with Bam Adebayo (and Tyler Herro). Chicago also allowed the third-most PPG (121.5), so it's not like its defense will be able to anchor it to wins in low-scoring contests. Caleb Wilson out of North Carolina is an exciting pick for the future, but he likely won't contribute much toward winning right now.

⬇️ Cleveland Cavaliers win total prediction: Buy 45+ wins (No)

I can't imagine the vibes are great in the Cavaliers' locker room heading into next season. They were swept in the conference finals by the Knicks - who aren't even among the top two favorites in the NBA championship odds - and had to win two Game 7s to get past the Pistons and Raptors. They didn't land LeBron (or any other star player) and are basically just running it back. I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland becomes a seller at the trade deadline if it gets off to a slow start and Donovan Mitchell or James Harden wants out.

⬆️ Dallas Mavericks win total prediction: Buy 40+ wins (Yes)

Cooper Flagg is fresh off winning Rookie of the Year, and Kyrie Irving is reportedly fully healthy. 

While this team obviously won't compete for an NBA championship until it puts more pieces around Flagg, he is a generational talent - the No. 1 overall draft pick and reigning Rookie of the Year - and should take a big enough step forward in his second season to lead this team to 40 wins.

⬇️ Denver Nuggets win total prediction: Buy 50+ wins (No)

In hindsight, the Cam Johnson-for-Michael Porter Jr. trade doesn't look as good anymore. The Nuggets went from being a perennial championship contender to losing to a short-handed Timberwolves team in a six-game first-round series. Defensively, this team isn't great, allowing 110-plus points in five of its six first-round games, and it didn't get any better in the offseason. I'm not sure even an MVP season from Nikola Jokic can save this team from being just above average.

The Pistons have not had a flashy offseason, but they were elite defensively, ranking first in the East in defensive efficiency, and I don't see that changing this time around. Cade Cunningham opened as a top-seven favorite in the NBA MVP odds, Ausar Thompson is among the top three in the Defensive Player of the Year odds, and Detroit is the favorite for Jalen Duren's next team. This team should win 50 games with how young and talented it is.

⬇️ Golden State Warriors win total prediction: Buy 40+ wins (No)

The Warriors might've been the biggest losers of the offseason. Not only did they fail to land James, but they're effectively wasting the twilight of Stephen Curry's prime. While he still produced like a star last season, averaging 26.6 PPG while shooting 39.3% from beyond the arc, he's no longer an MVP-caliber player who can carry a below-average roster to the playoffs. The Warriors are potentially one injury away from becoming sellers at the trade deadline.

The Rockets went out sad last season, losing in the first round to James and the Lakers' bench players, but there is hope this time around. Fred VanVleet is healthy, which should take a lot of playmaking pressure off Amen Thompson and Kevin Durant, neither of whom is a natural point guard. VanVleet is also a career 37.1% shooter from beyond the arc, and Houston made the sixth-fewest 3-pointers per game last season (11.4).

This is a pretty low projection for the Pacers, considering they pushed the Thunder to seven games in the 2025 NBA Finals. While I don't expect them to compete for a championship this season, 45-plus wins seems like a reasonable outcome with Tyrese Haliburton back. Andrew Nembhard also developed into a more dynamic offensive player last season, giving the Pacers a solid third option behind Haliburton and Pascal Siakam.

I'm operating under the assumption that the Kawhi Leonard trade to the Raptors will still happen, so there's not much to look forward to with this Clippers team. Keaton Wagler out of Illinois could become a star in the future, but he likely won't contribute much to winning this upcoming season, and an offense led by Brandon Ingram and Darius Garland will probably struggle to carry a team to the play-in tournament.

James leaves, and now the Lakers are projected to no longer be a top-four team in the West? I'm not buying it (but I am buying the Yes on them winning 45-plus games). I would argue the Lakers have a roster that makes much more sense for this upcoming season. Luka Doncic is the clear No. 1 option, Austin Reaves is the clear No. 2, and their roster has a cast of complementary pieces - instead of being top-three heavy - that features Walker Kessler, Quentin Grimes, and Collin Sexton.

⬇️ Memphis Grizzlies win total prediction: Buy 25+ wins (No)

There's not much to be excited about in Memphis other than the arrival of Cameron Boozer out of Duke. With Ja Morant shipped off to the Trail Blazers, there is no veteran star power on this team, and Jerami Grant will likely be the most consistent scorer on this roster. While Grant can give you 30-plus points once or twice a month, it'll be a struggle for him to lead this young team to 30 wins. I think 25 will also be harder than the market expects.

⬆️ Miami Heat win total prediction: Buy 45+ wins (Yes)

I'm higher on the Heat than the market is. I feel as if there's some negativity toward the Heat after not signing James, but it may have been a blessing in disguise. The Heat will roll out a lineup featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, who have each been selected to five or more All-NBA Defensive teams, along with plus defenders in Davion Mitchell and Andrew Wiggins. This team will be difficult to score on, and Antetokounmpo should provide enough offense to win close, low-scoring games.

⬇️ Milwaukee Bucks win total prediction: Buy 25+ wins (No)

The Bucks' highest scorer next season is projected to be Tyler Herro, followed by Ryan Rollins (or Jaime Jaquez Jr.). Kyle Kuzma is coming off his worst season since 2020-21, and Myles Turner has been trending downward for years. I just don't see the silver lining with this team in the post-Antetokounmpo era.

⬆️ Minnesota Timberwolves win total prediction: Buy 50+ wins (Yes)

The Timberwolves have the perfect combination of dynamic perimeter scorers and elite defenders. Rudy Gobert is a top-four favorite in the Defensive Player of the Year odds, and while Jaden McDaniels may not be a household name, he's among the best two-way players in the league. Obviously, adding Ball (36.8% 3PT in 2025-26) to a lineup that features Ayo Dosunmu (43.9%), Anthony Edwards (39.9%), and McDaniels (41.2%) will create headaches for opposing perimeter defenders.

⬇️ New Orleans Pelicans win total prediction: Buy 25+ wins (No)

How long will the Pelicans hold on to Trey Murphy III? They've reportedly declined multiple offers, as they're trying to get three first-round picks and a young player in return.

Once Murphy's out the door, the Pelicans' roster will likely become a fire sale, with Zion Williamson and Dejounte Murray the next dominos to fall. I expect Murphy to be traded sooner rather than later, and then the Pelicans' season may just become a tank job.

⬇️ New York Knicks win total prediction: Buy 50+ wins (No)

The Knicks had a historic run to the NBA Finals last season, and I don't want to undermine how impressive their underdog win against the Spurs was, but this team won 53 games in a weak Eastern Conference and didn't get better in the offseason. While continuity is a plus in the NBA, all of their starters are 29 years of age or older, and they likely won't be too aggressive trying to win marginal games down the stretch for playoff seeding.

⬆️ Oklahoma City Thunder win total prediction: Buy 60+ wins (Yes)

The Thunder have the second-highest forecast on Kalshi and are considered by all (reasonable) traders to be a top-two team in the NBA. Since 2024, they've gone an NBA-best 86-17 at home (an 83.5% win percentage), and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won MVP and Clutch Player of the Year this past season. They've won 64-plus games in back-to-back seasons. There's nothing really negative to say about them here.

⬇️ Orlando Magic win total prediction: Buy 45+ wins (No)

I think most of us entered this past season optimistic about the Magic, but that changed once we saw them in action. Orlando started the season 1-4 and, at one point, lost six straight games, allowing 124-plus points four times in that span. This team lost in the first round and is pretty much running it back with the same roster. The Magic ranked 21st in offensive efficiency, and unless Paolo Banchero has a career year, they'll probably just be another play-in tournament team.

⬆️ Philadelphia 76ers win total prediction: Buy 50+ wins (Yes)

The 76ers will likely have the most talented starting lineup in the NBA. They'll roll out James, Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Brown, and Joel Embiid. If they're healthy (and that's never a guarantee with Embiid on your roster), they should easily be able to win 55-plus games. However, even if Embiid misses half the season, James, Brown, and the two guards should be productive enough to help this team hit 50 wins.

⬇️ Phoenix Suns win total prediction: Buy 35+ wins (No)

I'm not buying into any Dillon Brooks hype, and Jalen Green seems to have regressed after a promising first two seasons in the league. Devin Booker likely isn't going anywhere, but he just isn't impactful enough to will this team to 35 wins, in my opinion. The Suns' biggest move was trading for Miles Bridges, and while he can get hot from beyond the arc, he's been a negative defender, per DBPM, in four of his six seasons (he was +0.1 DBPM in the other two).

⬆️ Portland Trail Blazers win total prediction: Buy 45+ wins (Yes)

Morant is a Trail Blazer now, and while his reputation has taken a hit over the past few years, he did lead the Grizzlies to the No. 2 seed in back-to-back seasons (2021-22, 2022-23). This could be a resurgence season for the former No. 2 overall pick, and he'll have a solid core around him. Deni Avdija has become an All-Star-caliber player, Donovan Clingan is a premier rim protector, and Toumani Camara remains one of the most underrated players in the NBA.

The Kings will potentially enter this season with Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis as their only players who averaged more than 14 PPG last season (and Sabonis averaged just 15.8). Darius Acuff Jr. out of Arkansas will be fun to watch, but who was the last No. 7 overall draft pick to contribute to winning in their rookie season? Sacramento waiving DeMar DeRozan seems like the final straw for what will likely be a tank job this upcoming season.

Victor Wembanyama is a once-in-a-lifetime (or once-in-forever?) type of talent, and there's no reason to fade this team moving forward as long as he's healthy. They beat the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, and while they underperformed in the Finals, the Knicks just seemed to be on a flash-in-the-pan run, and a young team like the Spurs just didn't have enough playoff experience to slow them down. I'd be extremely surprised if this team didn't win 60-plus games.

The Raptors will likely enter this season with Leonard, who ranked third in the NBA in EPM, per Dunks&Threes. While Leonard's health is always a question mark, Toronto also has one of the best coaches in the league in Darko Rajakovic, the favorite in the Coach of the Year odds. I'm not fading one of the most impactful players in the NBA (when healthy) alongside an elite coach.

The Jazz selected Darryn Peterson, who arguably has the highest upside in the draft, with the No. 2 overall pick, and Keyonte George is coming off a career year, averaging 23.6 PPG while shooting 37.1% from beyond the arc. There's a lot to be excited about if you're a Jazz fan (can't remember the last time I said that), but I'm not expecting instant results with two young-and-improving players alongside Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr.

The Wizards have multiple veteran All-Star-caliber players, took AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick, and appear focused on trying to add more talent.

While there's no guarantee that the Wizards will add DeMar DeRozan, it shows that this franchise is no longer interested in tanking. A lineup of Trae Young, Kyshawn George, Dybantsa, Anthony Davis, and Alex Sarr has the perfect combination of veterans and young talent to at least make the play-in tournament.
