The Phoenix Mercury (19-13) hope to halt a two-game slide when they visit the Seattle Storm (17-17) at 6 p.m. ET (WNBA League Pass) on Sunday at Climate Pledge Arena.

Phoenix, a potential spoiler in the WNBA championship odds, has dropped two straight games to the Atlanta Dream and Las Vegas Aces. The Storm recently snapped a six-game skid with a tight win over the Dream on Friday.

The Storm snapped their losing streak in Atlanta on Friday, but they had to hold off a late push by the Dream, who scored 23 points in the fourth quarter of an 80-78 affair. Seattle has now played in six games decided by four points or fewer across its previous seven outings.

All these close battles will eventually catch up to the Storm, and this might be as good a spot as any. It is a peculiar travel schedule, where the Storm flew to Atlanta for one road game on Friday before returning home. The Mercury, who lost at home to the Las Vegas Aces on Friday, might have the travel edge.

More importantly, I believe in Phoenix’s potential with Alyssa Thomas, Satou Sabally, and Kahleah Copper all in the lineup for the first time against Seattle. The Storm could lack the firepower to keep pace in a potential back-and-forth battle.
