The 2024 NASCAR season officially begins with the Great American Race, so get in on the action with our Daytona 500 picks and predictions using the best betting odds.

It's been just three months since Ross Chastain scored a season-ending win in Phoenix, but the 2024 NASCAR season officially gets underway on Monday with the Daytona 500.

Anything can happen in this close-quarters race, and we usually see chaos at some point each year during the Great American Race. That's the reason for such long odds on the drivers for NASCAR's official season opener, and it's why betting on superspeedways is both exciting and extra risky.

What made the race even more risky was inclement weather, and the Daytona 500 has been postponed until Monday at 4 p.m. ET. This marks the first outright postponement of the event since 2012.

The field is set, and Joey Logano holds the pole position at Daytona for the first time in his career. He'll try to fend off 39 hungry drivers who are all looking for a win to start the season.

To accompany our look at the Daytona 500 odds, here are our best bets and NASCAR picks for the 2024 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway (odds via our best sports betting sites; Pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Daytona 500 predictions

Joey Logano (+1200 via BetMGM) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's been nine years since Logano logged his first and only Daytona 500 victory. The two-time Cup Series champion has registered 30 career starts on this track. Overall, he's posted 11 top-10 finishes there. Of those, eight were inside of the top five, including a runner-up result during the 2023 season opener.

Logano will start on the pole when the green flag drops after an impressive qualifying effort Wednesday night. He led the field to start the first duel race before finishing seventh. He did so after wisely removing himself from a chaotic situation toward the end of the race.

The last driver to win the Daytona 500 from the pole position was Dale Jarrett back in 2000. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was the last driver to win from the pole in the fall race in 2015, the same season Logano won the spring race.

Christopher Bell (+2000 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Many were left wondering if Toyota would be fast enough to compete on Monday after a poor showing during practice and qualifying. Those fears were silenced when a Camry won both of the duel races.

Tyler Reddick took down the first race and Christopher Bell won the second. The No. 20 started 16th out of the 21 cars on the grid before managing to avoid a massive wreck en route way to the win.

Bell has yet to win a race at Daytona over eight career starts, and he's only brought his car to the finish line in half of those events. His best finish in the Daytona 500 came in 2023 when ended up third, leading 20 laps in the process.

Jimmie Johnson (+8000 via BetRivers) ⭐⭐⭐

Johnson begins a new chapter of his already storied career this Monday. The newly inducted hall of fame driver will take the green flag for the second time in Daytona driving a car he owns. This time he'll pilot a Toyota though, and not the Chevy that Johnson wheeled to seven Cup Series championships.

However, superspeedway racing is the great equalizer, and Johnson’s track history keeps him in the winning conversation. There are already two Daytona 500 trophies in his case. Alongside those is a third from his win at the 2013 fall race. Overall, Johnson has made 39 starts on this track with 16 top-10 finishes and 12 top-five outings.

Johnson edged out J.J. Yeley in the first duel race to earn his spot in Monday's starting grid. He did so despite losing vital track position toward the end of the race.

Toyotas took the checkered flags in both duels. That speed will benefit the entire Legacy Motor Club stable, and the veteran Johnson most of all.
