After a brutal last-lap penalty for Bubba Wallace at Atlanta cost us some serious change, we're onto North Wilkesboro for the first points-paying race held at the North Carolina track since 1996. Let's dive into my NASCAR predictions at North Wilkesboro for this historic event.
The Window World 450 is scheduled for Sunday at 7 p.m. ET (TNT, truTV, HBO Max). Practice and qualifying sessions, which will be important to monitor, are scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. ET (truTV, HBO Max).

💡 How to bet NASCAR at North Wilkesboro
North Wilkesboro is barely over a half-mile in length, with slight banking in each corner and straightaways that slope uphill and downhill. It compares favorably to Martinsville, as the corners are just two degrees off banking-wise, even though Martinsville features longer straights and tighter corners.
Short, flat ovals have traditionally been the playground of Team Penske, but recent results and Ford's struggles point to value elsewhere, too. Denny Hamlin dominated at Martinsville in the spring but came up just short, yet he owns odds longer than Christopher Bell (+250), and, at some books, Ryan Blaney.
🏆 Best bet to win the Window World 450
Denny Hamlin, Joe Gibbs Racing (No. 11)
- Denny Hamlin to win: +475 via bet365 (0.67u)
- Denny Hamlin vs. Christopher Bell: -115 via Hard Rock Bet (1.33u)
You have to respect the performance Hamlin put together at Martinsville in the spring. He led a whopping 292 of the 400 laps after starting from the pole. He may not have won the race, but he did win both stages, and he did so while posting the fastest average green-flag speed.
It's the scale of Hamlin's advantage in average green-flag speed that excites me the most. Hamlin (91.626) was so much faster than second-ranked Ty Gibbs (91.479) that the nearly 0.15-mph gap between them was wider than the one between Gibbs and sixth-ranked Chase Elliott (91.351).
In the NextGen Era, North Wilkesboro and other short tracks have favored drivers who qualify well. The three All-Star Race pole sitters here all managed to lead at least 25% of the event. Hamlin has been electric in qualifying this year, scoring poles at Martinsville, Nashville, Michigan, Pocono, and Chicagoland. Look for him to start up front and stay there. Lock him in for +475 at bet365 or +500 at Hard Rock.
📡 SBR Edge
Across the three trips to short, flat ovals this year (Bowman Gray, Martinsville, and Phoenix), just three drivers have been top 8 by average green-flag speed in each event: Hamlin, Ty Gibbs, and Ryan Blaney. Only Hamlin managed to score a top 5 finish in each of those events.
🔥 More NASCAR picks & prop bets
I like Hamlin a lot this week, but I don't love the price, and there are some drivers further down the board who stand out as solid betting options. We'll target another Joe Gibbs Racing driver, as the Toyotas have been the dominant manufacturer this year, as well as a long shot far down the board.
Ty Gibbs, Joe Gibbs Racing (No. 54)
- Ty Gibbs to win: +1600 via DraftKings (0.43u)
- Ty Gibbs top 10: -120 via DraftKings (2.4u)
I am not a big fan of Ty Gibbs, but it's hard to argue with results. Over the last five races, Gibbs has put together one of the best stretches of his short career, scoring two top 5s and four top 10s across a variety of track types. He has plenty of momentum, and we saw him bring plenty of speed to Martinsville in the spring: Gibbs ranked second by average green-flag speed but finished fourth. He was also fifth in the metric at Bowman Gray and sixth at Phoenix. We're getting more value than we should here - FanDuel has Gibbs at a whopping -260 for a top 10 (72.2%).
Austin Cindric, Team Penske (No. 2)
- Austin Cindric to win: +5500 via DraftKings (0.17u)
- Austin Cindric top 10: +235 via DraftKings (1u)
Cindric's counterparts at Team Penske, Blaney (+475) and Logano (+1100), get all the attention. That opens up some serious value here, especially pursuant to the results from this year. All three were top 10 drivers by average green-flag speed at Martinsville and Phoenix! Cindric was the slowest of the three, but he still ranked a comfortable seventh in the metric at both events. You'll find him between +120 and +150 for a top 10 at most books, except DraftKings, where he is a generous +235 (29.9%).
