We're starting with a side bet to set the narrative for our SGP. The Roughriders are clearly the best team in the CFL and are coming off a three-point win in the West final over the BC Lions. The Lions had a higher power rating than the Alouettes - hence why Saskatchewan is laying 3.5 points on a neutral site today after being just a 2.5-point home favorite over BC.

Alouettes QB Davis Alexander underperformed in the East final and is regressing toward the mean after an impressive season. The market is efficient on the Grey Cup spread - Pinnacle is taking $15,000 a side - so listing the CFL record-holder for most consecutive wins as a starter to begin a career (13) as an underdog shows just how much better the Roughriders are.

Now that the spread is out of the way, it's time to lay out how the Roughriders win by four-plus points. FanDuel's total for Roughriders QB Trevor Harris' passing yards is a little high - 278.5 (-114) - so we'll pay the 21 cents to buy down to a more favorable number.

There's an obvious correlation between the starting QB having a good game and a team covering the spread. In the Roughriders' eight covers that Harris played in before Week 19 - when they claimed the division title - Harris averaged 297.1 passing yards per game and threw for 277 or more yards in six of the eight covers.

While Roughriders wide receiver Samuel Emilus scored only two touchdowns in seven regular-season games, he has been Harris’ favorite target, and if Harris is productive in the passing game, Emilus will likely be the beneficiary.

Emilus recorded 100 yards on 11 targets - both team-highs - in the West final and finished with 78 or more receiving yards in four of his seven regular-season games. He also had receptions of 33 or more yards in four regular-season games, giving him a strong chance of scoring on one of those long balls today.
