While McIlroy is the rightful favorite in any field not including Scheffler, these +450 odds to win the Truist Championship seem to be factoring in his copious career success at Quail Hollow Club.
McIlroy enters this week at No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) but the event is well-attended with the exception of Scheffler. Collin Morikawa (fourth in the OWGR), Ludvig Aberg (sixth), and Xander Schauffele (third) share +1600 odds to win behind McIlroy on the oddsboard.
Nobody in the field has meaningful PGA Tour tournament experience at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, so the odds should view this as a much more level playing field.
I'll be passing on betting McIlroy to win this week and will instead focus on the year's second major.

Hovland is third in this week's field - behind Morikawa and McIlroy - in strokes gained: approach across his last 16 measured rounds. He's also gaining 0.41 strokes per round with his putter in that time, and he's well above average in both driving distance and accuracy.
I value those traits in an event without course experience, and I'm happy to take the exaggerated odds with McIlroy such a heavy favorite.
