Western Kentucky (3-2) has had a season of contrasting performances, resembling a Jekyll and Hyde scenario, where its play significantly differs between home and away games. Nevertheless, as the Hilltoppers prepare for Thursday's showdown against Louisiana Tech (3-3), they find themselves as favorites by nearly a touchdown.
The big question remains whether Western Kentucky can break the pattern and achieve a convincing victory on Thursday night.

Western Kentucky has a notable edge in the metrics over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs entering this Week 6 matchup as part of our college football predictions for Week 6, as the Hilltoppers rank 66th in overall efficiency according to FPI. The Bulldogs are down toward the bottom of the table in FBS at 110th in total efficiency.
Although Louisiana Tech has logged three wins on the season, those victories have come against one FCS opponent and two teams that rank 120th or lower in overall efficiency. LA Tech also gets dinged for a home loss to North Texas, another team that sits outside the top 100 in the efficiency metrics.
Western Kentucky hasn’t had outright success in road games this season, losing to both Ohio State and Troy. However, Troy ranks above WKU in efficiency and only defeated the Hilltoppers by two points in that contest. Mitigating some minor road woes for WKU is the fact that Louisiana Tech is 1-2 ATS at home.
While LA Tech ranks favorably in pass defense, I don’t consider it a concern for WKU’s pass-heavy offense; the ranking is a major misnomer. Nobody has really needed to throw against Louisiana Tech because of how dreadful its run defense has been (130th in FBS).
Louisiana Tech is a bad team getting set to face a capable offense. WKU has managed to win similar mismatches by double-digits to this point, so I expect a similar outcome here.
