Through two weeks of the 2023 college football season, TCU owns the worst defensive efficiency among all Power Five programs, ranking 118th in the nation in the metric. The Horned Frogs memorably got blitzed by Deion and Shedeur Sanders, giving up a whopping 45 points and 510 passing yards in a home loss to the upstart Colorado Buffaloes. While the jury is still out on whether that porous effort should say more about the Colorado passing game or the TCU secondary, regardless, it wasn’t pretty.
That’s a concern coming into this weekend, but it doesn’t mean the Horned Frogs can’t win the game. That’s because Houston’s defense is almost as bad as TCU’s, ranking 113th in the country in defensive efficiency.
Another feather in the cap for Over bettors in this matchup is the fact that both Houston and TCU run a frantic pace offensively, ranking inside the top 15 teams in FBS in seconds per play. Against these terrible defenses, it’s hard to envision a script that doesn’t end with both teams pushing into the 30s.
