As an addendum to the play above: I feel the Czech duo has had a harder road to the semis than the Russians, and also believe that they have more experience playing together/better doubles pedigree. Vesnina is the doubles veteran on the other side, but with Hradecka winning the mixed doubles today with Cermak, her confidence should be high, which is a good thing because she is the muscle of the team with her serve. I see a Czech/Italian showdown in the finals.

Nope, they go down in burning flames. Up 4-1 in the second set & lose 5 of the next 6 to lose the match. Hradecka must still be mad at me for comparing her to Shrek, because she lost me this wager. Double fault on break point, missing easy put aways left & right. Oh well, onto the next one.

I liked Zverev I think mostly from an experience vs. inexperience factor. German wildcard in Germany ... maybe he gives a shit. Goffin transitioning from one surface to another (so is Zverev) but less experience at doing so.
Seems to always be a couple spots where you can find favorites with "names" who do poorly on those switches. Waiting to see some totals before I decide anything.Comment -
