Video: Intense scene after SF police kill man
Suspect fired at officers as he fled; shooting has led to multiple protests
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco police shot and killed a man who fled a routine transit fare inspection, firing on officers as he ran before being shot multiple times.
The unidentified 19-year-old man was approached by officers working a "crime reduction detail" in the city's crime-ridden Bayview district. As they began to question him, he ran and began firing back at the officers. At that point, at least one officer returned fire, striking and killing the man.
The aftermath of the shooting was captured on multiple cell phone videos. One video, seen below, is titled "SFPD Ruthlessly Shoots and Kills Unarmed 19yr old Man over $2 Bus Fair" and depicts a tumultuous scene following the shooting, as the suspect can be seen moving in a pool of blood. The crowd is heard angrily yelling at officers, claiming the shooting was prompted by the suspect's failure to pay the $2 fare.
Today, SFPD announced they recovered a gun they believed was used by the suspect.
"Someone picked up the firearm that the suspect had shot with and ran southbound up the street with it," San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr told ABC 7. "Luckily, someone else in the crowd took video...and officers have been able to track that firearm and we believe we have it in custody."
Suhr may be referring to the second video below, titled "Aftermath of Bayview gun battle in San Francisco", in which there appears to be a silver handgun on the sidewalk at around the 0:15 mark.
The suspect was also a person of interest in a fatal Seattle shooting that occurred last week, in which a pregnant woman died from her injuries. He had two felonies in Washington state, and was out on parole.
The shooting sparked protests both Saturday and Sunday in San Francisco's Mission and Bayview districts. The protests were largely controlled, with only minor damage reported and no arrests.
Looks like this may be one where it was actually justified, still speaks volumes that they kill unarmed and innocent people so often that we all jump to the conclusion the cops are in the wrong though.Comment -

#14Cops has been getting too easy here in California. Just a few weeks ago, former a 50 year former Cincy Bengals player was killed by two Kern County Sheriffs because he was swinging a bag with beers at them. A bag of beers is not a deadly weapon yet they shot him dead first without even trying to apprehend an un-arm old guy. The use of deadly force is not longer taught as a last resort to these new gen Cowboy cops, it scary because you can get shot for speeding ticket because you accidentally sneezed at them.Comment -

#17Only people that don't ever get out in the real world would ever put blind faith in anyone or aything involved with our "legal system." The police are the biggest gang in this country and they are on every street in every city in every state in this country armed to the teeth operating with damn near absolute immunity. You may not realize we are at war against those in power in this country but sooner or later you will and it will be too late. Wait until they put your kid away for something he didn't do or rape your wife or put a hot piece of lead in you because they thought they saw something or felt threatened. The BS don't do anything wrong and you have nothing to worry about was implanted in people by those who run the show along time ago and those ignorant enough to believe it are the reason they go unchecked.Comment -

#22Way too many people see themselves as "victims" these days. These same type of people are always blaming others for their personal misfortunes/failures. People need to step the fukk up and make better decisions each and every morning they get out of bed. If you allow yourself to be (or to get caught) in highly toxic/dangerous situations you're just begging for trouble.Comment -

Someone who makes a bad decision does not deserve to be murdered in cold blood. There are people beyond sick who deserve nothing but the worst ala casey anthony who is walking the streets tonight, then you have people with menal illness, minorities, or people who make a bad choice bit are no real threat or are not violent that end up on the pavement with their face blown off. Life is a son f a bitch and the cops are all too afraid that they rather shoot first yet they always cry that they put themselves in the line of fire and could die every day they go to work. They are at far less threat than I am walking outside every day as they are srmed and kill anytime they fear a possibility of harm may come their way. They can sell their loaf to the uneducated protected ignorant masses but I am not buying.Comment -

#32Cops are the modern day Nazi SS, way above the law. I'm still stunned how hard it is just to become a Police Officer, yet many of these psycho slips through the cracks passing a psych test, polygraph, and comprehensive BI. You'd figure the City's usually hires the best and most qualify people but yet they quickly forget their ways once they are officially in the Police gang.Comment -

#33Not in the slightest 2 cops have been killed in the county I reside TOTAL, EVER both in the same isolated incident where a dude showed up to a police station intent on taking down as moany officers as possible. Maybe some inner cities they are at more risk than the average joe but not most places. Now on the flip side there are a few dozen murders of normal citizens a year on top of that police have gunned down 2 citizens being dumb but who could have been easily detained without life or limb at risk this year alone. Every year I have lived here there are 2-3 officer related shootings that they get away with but almost certainly could have showed some restraint and preserved life. SO yes, I am serious.Comment -
