#145How To Cheat on Your Taxes
If you ever plan to cheat on your taxes, here’s something to consider (besides prison): Make sure that most of the numbers you fabricate start with the digit 1 (one). The second-most common leading digit should be 2, then 3, continuing on that pattern to leave 9 as the least common leading digit. This distribution is called Benford’s Law, and it’s a lot more straightforward than tax law… though why it exists is nearly as mysterious...

#147The Milgram experiments
In the early 1960′s the people of the world were still pondering how the otherwise good people of Germany followed Hitler into World War II. After all, the same atrocities that shocked and befuddled the world committed at Nazi hands also shocked many Germans–even some of them who were involved. Stanley Milgram wondered at what it was that caused ordinary people with contemporary values to engage in acts of torture and genocide. How could people go against their conscience in the name of “just following orders”...
The full experiment can be found here:

The Third Wave was an experiment to demonstrate that even democratic societies are not immune to the appeal of fascism.
It was undertaken by history teacher Ron Jones with sophomore high school students attending his "Contemporary World" history class as part of a study of Nazi Germany. The experiment took place at Cubberley High School in Palo Alto, California, during the first week of April 1967. Jones, unable to explain to his students how the German population could claim ignorance of the extermination of the Jewish people, decided to show them instead.[Jones started a movement called "The Third Wave" and told his students that the movement aimed to eliminate democracy. The idea that democracy emphasizes individuality was considered as a drawback of democracy, and Jones emphasized this main point of the movement in its motto: "Strength through discipline, strength through community, strength through action, strength through pride".
I haven't seen the documentary about it yet but I want to bad.

I don't think I've mentioned any corrupt schemes so far. The last couple of posts reflected on how people are manipulated. FWIW corruption is systemic in politics. No need to single out one egg when the dozen are rotten. Railing against this stuff is pretty meaningless however. Most people are happier swallowing the lies and actually pointing out how stuff works just makes you a pariah.Comment -

#167e Baruya are a tribe in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. They have been studied since 1967 by anthropologist Maurice Godelier. The Baruya are characterized by a strong inequality between males and females; all their organizations, institutions, and myths present male domination. They have a ritual in which boys give fellatio to young males and drink their semen, to 're-engender themselves prior to marriage'[citation needed]
