I'm going to do something I normally don't like to do and that's whip out the Shari guilt.

Either you or your friend posted on here before that you have a free ride to a great school. That free ride was given to you because the scholarship selectors deemed you more worthy of this investment than whomever got passed over in favour of you.

If for nothing else, drag your ass to class in honour of the guy or girl you beat out who is maybe: Working 2 shitty jobs just to afford tuition; attending a school and/or program not of their choosing but that's all they could afford; or maybe not even in school at all at this point, most likely destined to work lower paying jobs for the rest of their life because you won the scholarship instead of them.

This is a privilege that you've been granted and you're pissing it away with this attitude.

And if that still can't motivate you, please do it for your mother. You've told me how much this means to her. Everyone goes through this at one point or another in uni and it's normal. But just finish this off properly for the woman who gave birth to you.

Stealthy do not give up on school. You are very close to getting your degree and that's important to have. Lots of people get burnt out of school and with work. I know I get burnt out on projects at work when they are close to being finished after working on them for a couple of years. Getting the degree will pay off in the long run even though its a pain in the butt now.

i know what you're saying, and i'm probably going to get hammered for this, but i wish i didn't get a scholarship. it feels like everything was given to me, and i don't want it. my momma was never one to rah-rah me into anything, and the fact that we aren't speaking to one another right now doesn't help anything.

but you're right, its a shitty attitude. and you've succeeded in making me feel guilty. if i look at it in terms of the perspective of others it changes my outlook...

...but not enough. i'm just really, really tired of grinding it out.

Life doesn't get any easier, or more exciting, than it is for you now. This isn't a a bad thing. I encourage you to appreciate every minute of the end of your college experience....you'll sorely miss it soon enough.

95% of college is designed to weed out those who give up whenever a task becomes difficult. Those who persevere and stay receive an award. Its called a diploma.

opie, its not that the task is too difficult. its hard to explain.

and i'm not looking for pats on the back or whatever, if you wanna hammer away so be it. i know this is a public forum, but things still remain relatively anonymous. if i expressed this to my friends or family irl i know they'd tear me a new asshole.

i was hoping to hear more then the "just finish it" mentality, but it looks like thats how simple this matter is (from what i've presented)

I'm not ripping you, pal. This is simply the reality. I went through the exact same thing. By the end of college I was beyond sick of school, books, lab, etc.... But you have to suck it up. Remember....its a tiny fraction of your life. Soon enough, it'll be a distant memory. Trust me on this.

Its not supposed to always be fun. That's what makes it hard to achieve. You gotta be mentally tough to make it through.

You have to be f-ing kidding me here? The professor called you and asked if there was something wrong? Asked if you were underprepared for the exam? WTF is wrong with the world? This is why the entire globe is becoming a giant collection of sensitive, egg-shell walking pussies. Because everyone wants to be grabbed by the wrist and led through life all the while being patted on the back being told everything will be alright. (Except for the Chinese. They still get it.)

When I went to college the god damn professor didn't care if you were in class or not! You paid to be there and they were getting paid either way. Underprepared for the exam? Who's fukkin fault is that? Certainly not the professors! What about all the other students who got their asses to class and studied for tests? Un-fukking-believable.

Here's some advice for you. Give up now, because as opie said, it don't get any easier. Drop out and make way for somebody else that wants to be there. In the words of the great Judge Smails from Caddyshack, "The world needs ditch diggers too!"

This is why public schools look like tryouts for the prison system, no one has respect for opportunities they dont have to earn

Dude, I've been through college and I've had those exact same feelings before. If you don't find motivation those feelings can last for quite awhile.

The situation you're going to find yourself in soon, will be an ironic one. Let me explain, if you procrastinate more, due to lack of motivation, you will find yourself in school longer than expected. And if you're in school longer, then you're going to need more motivation. Do you see the irony? Four years can easily turn into 5 or 6 and sometimes 7.

Here's what you should do. Think of something you like to do, whether it's going to the movies, eating, drinking, partying, or playing Call of Duty or some shit, pick one as a post celebration. But this time do it to the extreme (except the drinking cause it can kill you).

Tell yourself, when your finish, you're going to watch 4 movies in one day, or party to 7 in the morning (if one last that long), or eat a bucket of ice cream or whole pizza, or play Call of Duty for 7 hours straight. Use some extreme activity as your post celebration and that should give you a little kick. The thing is though, it has to be something you really enjoy.

Or you could just have the Van Wilder syndrome: afraid to face the 'real' world. .....But try what I said, it may help.

Dude, I am in the same boat as you. I am 9hrs (3 classes) away from graduating. But I just don't feel like doing crap anymore. I've paid for all of my college through student loans, grants, and military GI Bill. Ever since spring break I've had no motivation to attend class or study. It also did not help i went on a gambling spree during spring break built a $500 bank roll up to 27k in a span of 2 weeks then lost it all + another 5k in another 2 weeks. I am forcing myself to attend class and stay on campus so that way I can get my head out of gambling and get over my loss. Hopefully I can finish out this semester so and get a decent job.
