A mirror could be traced to a make of car, model and a model range. As long as that mirror isn't shared with another model in the line up. Even with that the color, if a special code can narrow it down to a year.

Since they know my gf's name they can easily narrow it down to me since I live with her and was talking to the police at the hospital.
