If it ever came out it would most likely come from Dave. There's really nothing to be gained by the company to air dirty laundry. I handle HR issues every day and see people let go for a variety of reasons. It's never fun but it has to be done. It's usually best to give the employee some heads up, so that it doesn't totally blindside them, especially if its to cut cost. If it's performance or maybe legal incident then sometimes you have to make the cut immediately before the employee can sabotage the company.

Millions of people have lost their jobs the past year. It's very tough for people to go through. You have to get some support sometimes to move forward during this difficult time. Fortunately there are some great agencies that can help you get back on your feet

I handle HR issues every day as well and there is definitely something to be said about Dave's character if SBR gave him a "heads up". If SBR did not trust Dave, they would have fired him on the spot.

Any company terminating employment in this job market has to handle the termination carefully. Many disgruntled employees are filing suit against former employers for a variety of reasons, many of which are exaggerated. SBR will never reveal the "truth" for two reasons: 1) they could be sued for defamation of character 2) it is none of our business.

Considering the recent mood of the staff, it seems that Dozer is losing the loyalty of the "troops." When similar conditions happened in Vietnam, usually a 2nd Lieutenant would be found with an unexplained bullet in his back. Further developments should be entertaining, SBR John is going to have to decide at some point between keeping Dozer or the rest of the staff.
