The New York Post reported that up to 100,000 migrants will be enrolled in the new program’s first wave.
This comes after the Biden administration set the record for the highest number of illegal migrants entering the country in a single year in 2023, with 3.2 million entries. This surpassed the previous record of 2.7 million set the year before.
Among the cities most impacted by this surge is New York, which has seen over 223,000 migrants arrive in the city since spring 2022. As a sanctuary city, New York spent $3.7 billion in housing, food and other costs in the 2024 fiscal year alone.
Joe Borelli, a Republican New York City council member, told Fox News Digital that many were hoping that with a second Trump presidency on the horizon, the crisis would "wind down."
Instead, he said, "These actions taken during the death gargles of the Biden administration are disheartening, to say the least."
"This doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the peaceful transition Biden promised," he added. "This is a last-ditch effort to usurp the will of the people who voted decisively against sanctuary city policies and unrestrained illegal immigration."
Meanwhile, Congressman Mike Lawler, a Republican who represents the suburban New York District 17, told Fox News Digital that the administration’s decision to further loosen restrictions immediately after the murder trial of Laken Reilly’s killer "defies logic and all common sense."
"For this news to come out just a day after Laken Reilly’s killer, Jose Ibarra was sentenced is astounding," he said. "Mr. Ibarra lived in a taxpayer-funded hotel in Queens and received a taxpayer-funded airplane ticket to Athens, Georgia, where he committed the heinous murder of Ms. Reilly."
"It is appalling that in the waning days of the Biden administration, Alejandro Mayorkas is seeking to loosen restrictions on those who crossed the border illegally in the biggest sanctuary city in the country," he added.

The Trump 2017 tax law was costly.
Rs made most provisions temporary, ie expire in '25, to keep the official cost down.
Full permanence would have been much more expensive, adding trillions to the deficit.

The REAL story on Pam Bondi, Trump University, and Trump's $25,000 payment to Bondi:
1/ In August 2013, I was at the NY AG, and Bondi was Florida AG.
On August 24, 2013, I filed the NY AG's prosecution of Trump University and Donald Trump, for $42 million in fraud. ��
2/ Our case made national headlines for several days after.
Unbeknownst to us, on August 28, 2013, Trump's assistant, Rhona Graff, had an email exchange with Bondi's campaign finance director, to obtain the payment info to send a $25,000 donation to one of Bondi's PACs.
3/ During that same time, our office was in touch with the Florida AG's office; they were interested in joining our case.
State AG offices routinely join each other's cases when there's a large multistate fraud.
Florida had one of the largest numbers of Trump U victims.
4/ At the request of my bureau chief, I collected all the key documents from our case so they could be emailed to the Florida AG's office.
This was just after Labor Day 2013.
At the NY AG's office at that point, we were excited about the prospect of Florida joining our case.
5/ But then the Florida AG's office ghosted us, and we never heard from them again.
At the time, we didn't know what had happened.
6/ Meanwhile, on September 13, 2013, unbeknownst to us, Donald Trump sent one of Bondi's PACs a $25,000 check, misspelling Bondi's name and writing a note: "Dear Pam, You are the greatest!"
Florida never joined our case or take any other action against Trump University.
7/ Additional fun fact: Trump's donation came from the Trump Foundation, the 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity Trump and his family then ran.
That was illegal. And my colleagues at the NY AG's office then prosecuted the Trump Foundation for this and other offenses and shut it down.

Why Is Trump Refusing to Sign Transition of Power Agreements?
The Trump Transition Team continues to refuse to sign Transition of Power documents with the White House and GSA. Why? So they can avoid FBI background checks on their nominees.
The Presidential Transition Act has been in place since JFK’s assassination in 1963, when the transfer of power was extremely chaotic. It was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support. Major party nominees are supposed to sign these agreements six months before the presidential election. Trump has still refused to sign them. He is simply ignoring the law, just like he did when the government was trying to get him to return stolen classified documents.
The Biden White House has continued to reach out to the Trump team to get them to sign these agreements, and are being ignored. The purpose of these agreements is to ensure a smooth and seamless transition of power from one administration to the next. Since the documents haven’t been signed, the government is unable to grant security clearances or provide briefings to incoming administration officials, other than Trump.
But that also means that FBI can't conduct background checks on Trump nominees, and that is the key. Trump has taken the unusual step of hiring a private company to conduct the background checks (rather poorly), which clearly shows that this is the primary motive behind their refusal to sign the agreements. JD Vance has already disclosed that Trump is going to fire FBI Director Chris Wray. They obviously do not want the current FBI digging into the shady backgrounds of any of Trump’s picks.
Typically the results of these FBI background checks are provided to Senators prior to confirmation hearing and interviews with nominees to give them as much information as possible about them. That is what Trump wants to prevent. He wants to ram them through a Republican Senate as quickly as possible with as little scrutiny as possible.
Transition agreements also provide office space, IT equipment, office supplies, fleet vehicles, mail management, and payment of compensation and other expenses to incoming members of the Administration. So the Trump team will also not have any of those things made available to them.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre talked about the problem this week: “We certainly are stressing that the White House and the administration stand ready to provide assistance and that access to services and information certainly outlined in the GSA, and the White House memorandum of agreement. So, those conversations continue. And we want this to go smoothly, and that's what we're trying to get to."
Trump is ignoring the law, and doing it for a nefarious reason. Trump doesn’t care about the Constitution, or a federal statute that has been in existence since 1963. The Courts do not seem willing to check him - in fact, they granted him immunity from crimes committed in office. His incoming Republican Congress seems prepared to let him do whatever he wants.Comment -
