My parents raised several kids on a 45 grand per year salary. Before taxes. Granted that was a very long time ago but even adjusted for inflation, it's no where near what you guys make. Do you have any kids? You and your wife make 260? You are upper class. I wouldn't file chapter 13 for 80k debt. Maybe if it was 150. Look at it like a student loan or something. YOu make 200 a year selling cars but lawyers make 120 a year after 200 grand in student debt.

Whatever car you are driving, downgrade it. Shop clearance, buy meat from the grocery store that's reduced by 50% and meant to use that day. Get your clothes from 90% racks, they have stuff they put on their just cause it's the wrong season. Things like that. Ppl have no idea how to be frugal these days when they make these high salaries.

That's even less than the 4% per year I mentioned.

it's not 30k free money. It could be a lifetime of extra trouble obtaining finance or good interest rates.

Plan to be a winner is a better way to think.

You might be able to make a deal with the main creditors to suspend interest anyway, whilst you stick to a repayment plan.

You're lucky you still have all that. I've lost everything in my life. Lost my college tuition, lost my gf of 6 years/fiance, burned bridges with family and friends, destroyed credit, and have been in massive debt for the last 20 years.

I declared bankruptcy when i was 21. Who does that at 21? That was when it was easy before they changed a lot of the bankruptcy regulations.
I tried to do it again last year but I made too much to qualify for chapter 7 and it wasn't worth them garnishing my checks for chapter 13 while still having to pay the lawyer 3 grand. Plus my 100k education loans wouldn't be included.
I said fk it I didn't do it and just stiffed a bunch of ppl. Ive been served and sued several times. Every day its robbing peter to pay paul.
