And how would you expect then to react? Prob for the first time someone really threatened their life, going at them with a knife, so they were afraid for their life. And they have to protect the others. Of course, if they would have the option to press "Pause" and talk about the situation for a few hours, for sure they would come up with a better solution.

It’s common sense. If you are dumb enough to run at a cop with a knife, pull a weapon, resist arrest, etc...hell, if you are carrying a weapon and pull it out on a random you are probably on borrowed time anyway.

This problem stems from one emotion, "ego". Guy with the knife is not going to get "punked" by a white pig in front of his friends. After he's killed, protesters are too prideful to admit the guy was just plain stupid, and brought this on himself. They then double down, and blame the guys that would not not have been there in the first place except for the fact that they were called out there 3 times that day. After the cops do what all people in that neighborhood suspect could be a final result, they practically rejoice and celebrate the dead guy and his actions, while demonizing why "protect and serve" was there in the first place, not thinking that they might have saved lives that day for a potential incident that would have been a small subtitle on the local news instead of the major headline it has become.

What would be a good sentence for these protesters? Make them serve a full training session in a simulation of the local police academy, and see the true meaning of the importance of why our guys in blue are trained the way they are. Maybe they would learn something, or possibly even contribute to their own neighborhoods in the future.
