SS and Medicare is considered socialism only in the sense that the government is managing a system that most people have contributed to their entire life. Every month, through payroll deduction Uncle Sam withholds 3% for Medicare and 12.4% for SS. Your employer's contribution is included in those percentages. It is misleading to state both are handouts because you are simply being reimbursed for money you have already put into the system..plus cost of living adjustments.

They do cap Social Security contributions but if you are employed, you have been paying into the system whether you want to or not.
