The economic fallout is hurting the overwhelming majority of us (me included), many severely.... let alone the social and psychological impact, and quite possibly a threat to the future of the way of life we have come to know.
On this, I AGREE. I too am concerned about the future.
But, when we get a working vaccine -- hundreds of thousands of researchers are working feverishly on this as we speak -- then all should be well. Our way of life won't change. Schools, bars, restaurants, sports stadiums - we can all go back to normal as before -- no masks, no distancing!

Estimates range from as low as 150,000 worldwide to as high as 575,000. Many suggest the worldwide death was probably much closer to 284,000.

Johns Hopkins University currently lists over 231,800 dead worldwide
in less than 3 months!!
Not only that but that H1N1 pandemic did NOT involve tough mitigation measures employed worldwide, like we have now! Nope, it was allowed to openly run its course....thus increasing spread AND death to achieve that estimated 284,000 most probable death toll....over the 20 month counting period.

But specifically, in the US the swine flu really only lasted about 12 months (April to April)

After 5 full months (Sept, 2009) there were only 593 deaths in USA -- waaaay less than the seasonal influenza. There were a very high number of cases but incredibly few deaths. Only 4,000 deaths by November 15 (7.5 months)...
Ultimately, over the course of 12 months , about 80 million were believed infected, but only 12,469 deaths -- which is less than one-third the seasonal influenza !!!!!
Tough mitigation measures like "Stay-at-home" etc, were never needed. That virus was allowed to spread freely in the US because it was determined it was no where near as virulent as the common flu!
