Idk about this. We have 200 nurses on furlough at our local hospital who haven't been tested yet but are out of work with symptoms and were exposed to coronavirus patients. We only have like 40 confirmed cases in CT but we are already at capacity but people just aren't confirmed to have it. I think these numbers will still skyrocket this week.

Data from various parts of the world indicate the "Confirmed cases" of the virus doubles every 3-4 days in a given country unless and until effective measures are put in place to mitigate the virus spread. Of course, this is very dependent upon testing taking place for which the US has been exceptionally behind on.


Here is the actual data for US. It shows that the confirmed cases seem to be doubling roughly every 3-4 days as other countries have seen (there is likely more cases than shown, just not confirmed). The 3 day Doubling column is a calculation either based on the actual data from 3 days prior or estimated as doubling every 3 days from March 17th forward. I wanted to determine if the 3-4 day doubling rate estimate was applicable.

This basis of calculation seems to indicate we may be close to 30,000 confirmed cases within 7-8 days. I am doubting this will be the case based on Italy's trend (discussed below) but so far the 3-4 day doubing theory is holding close to being right if not just little conservative.



We are CURRENTLY on path that Italy is on as far as progression of the virus. Unless different measures are implemented we could be following the same spread rate. Remember the entire country of Italy went in lockdown on March 9th. The US has only implemented similar measures recently and only in select areas.

People may argue, "Well the US is not Italy". Until we implement differential measures to mitigate the virus, we appear to be following Italy's lead (2 weeks worth of data doesn't lie) and the curves damn near match. As we implement more testing going forward, the curve for the US may change from Italy's (I hope), and maybe our mitigation steps may be more effective than Italy's. Time will tell.

Based on the Italy curve, US might hit 10k cases by the 19th or 20th and 20k cases by 23rd or 24th. Of course, this is all just based on data and science so I'm sure it is wrong.

Will be past 25 k On March 21 it looks like. What I'm really interested in is monitoring is the death count and how that trends. The "infected" number is highly correlated with the amount of testing we're doing at this point.

4 people I personally know have tested positive for the virus, they live in different locations, one of them intubated now, he is only in his early 50’s and was healthy prior to catching the disease
