#38my cousin has schizophrenia (shes adopted) and she receives $725/month ssi
shes very much disabled and thats all they give her. she lives with her parents but she would be toast if something happened and they kicked her out. they never would but if they did she would be forced to live in her car. she would barely survive on her ssi and she would be a mess. i was amazed she doesnt get at least $1300/month since ive been hearing ppl complain about welfare ("get a job") for years. i always thought it was decent money. but in reality even the chicks who pop out 3-4 kids dont get much more. They dont really pay per child.easilyget section 8 housing, subsidized housing, or something similar if she receives ssi. But it 100x better to be with family and have their support. Having no support, or burning all bridges with family/friends is why most people are homeless (I'm not counting substance abuse or mental illness). A lot of people would be homeless if their family didn't help them out in certain situations.Comment -

#39When you think about it, nobody should be homeless that doesn't want to be.
It takes a male and female to make a baby. We're not just dumped here on this earth naked and alone. So that's 2 people in our "circle". Those 2 that made us have their own parents and siblings, so that's more people in our circle. Our aunts and uncles have children, our cousins, so that's more people in our circle. Our siblings have children, our nieces and nephews, so that's more people in our circle.
Now look at how many people are in our circle. 3 generations of people. If we fall on hard times, why can't our circle help us out? Why can't we lean on them when we need them. In a lot of cases, that's exactly what happens.
But in a lot of other cases, we've left our circle. Not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. We've stolen from them. Over and over. Asked them to co-sign a car loan and screwed them. Promised over and over to pay them back. Whatever. Anyway, the thing is we've left our circle or been kicked out for bad behavior.
So why is it now the government's job to take care of these people? They had their safety net - their circle. And they crapped on it. Why should taxpayers have the burden of caring for these people?
Let them live on the outskirts of town by the railroad tracks out where the buses don't run. Don't let them sleep in doorways where store owners have to wake them up and make them move and then clean up their piss and crap and trash before the paying customers show up.
My point is that nobody is alone. Everybody has somebody (usually a lot of somebodies) . And if you don't screw them, they'll help you in times of need. The only homeless are the ones that want to be homeless. Screw them. They quit.Comment -

#44Not read any of the above^^
My 2 cents
Homeless people most likely have a mental disorder
They are providing for themselves and would like some compassion
That don't want your sympathy
Drug addicted persons would love your sympathy
They will work the system and their family until their fix is solved
Please
And know the difference about sympathy and compassion
Peace

Brainfreeze - I use to feel sorry for the homeless people here in the suburbs of Detroit... these fukkers are ALWAYS AT WALMART begging for money. These are the same people... hours later at the shi#$y tavern nearby. Or... walking around with a 40.
I can't stand seeing these bums. Not going to run a nursery for these folks either. I guess you're just born or choose to be dependent? Doesn't take that many brain cells to work at McDonalds. Punch a few buttons on a computer... count some money... (the same money you count for your 40) hand the food over and smile. Repeat.Comment -

#69Money-it's your business who you do and don't feel sorry for. As the paragraph you just agreed with from eidolon, different people, different circumstances... i ain't nobodies judge, i just help where i see fit and i can assist. i could be homeless, you could be homeless...hurricane could hit next month everybody around me will be homeless... what do we think is secure ... ? Our families, our lives, our jobs, our health, our money, helping other people? What's most important to YOU.
i appreciate life, and what God has put before me... i try to act in love, humility, and understanding. i will continue to help where i see fit. i hope you do as well.
Too many people acting/looking like their homeless... and have no money. Man... I wish I could of woke up one day... and leeched off of others too. Sounds like fun. It's unfortunate... but way too many people are out there "hustling" others.
I get it... some people were dealt a bad hand. But you can still make something of yourself. I believe majority of these people love to be dependent on others.Comment -
