I never see many of them where i travel. Maybe once in a while but there are 600,000 homeless ppl in the USA. Thats 600k on record id assume its over a million with illegals and such. Do they really live in the woods behind walmarts and stuff?

#12Vegas gives them a free bus ticket to SLC, UT.
The streets are full them in Salt Lake City...Unbelievable....
The city is trying to address the problem by building more shelters and housing....
its a battle....just to many of them....Comment -

#13my cousin has schizophrenia (shes adopted) and she receives $725/month ssi
shes very much disabled and thats all they give her. she lives with her parents but she would be toast if something happened and they kicked her out. they never would but if they did she would be forced to live in her car. she would barely survive on her ssi and she would be a mess. i was amazed she doesnt get at least $1300/month since ive been hearing ppl complain about welfare ("get a job") for years. i always thought it was decent money. but in reality even the chicks who pop out 3-4 kids dont get much more. They dont really pay per child.Comment -

#14yes its a shame. most of them are destined for prison. maybe a work camp. private prisons are a big industry rarely reported in the mainstream media. of course i dont want to get abducted in the middle of the night so i wont say anymoreComment -

#15Downtown Portland Oregon is literally crawling with them. Homeless here get a lot of free stuff, so they come here from other cities. And the weather isn't too bad so living on the streets is not so bad.Comment -

#16Every major city in America has a large homeless population. I guess they prefer the city. It's strange you never see homeless people in the suburbs.Comment -

#2450% of them created their own problems in life so you should not feel sorry for them although there are some that I've had bad breaks and ended up that way for various reasons whether health or mentalComment -

#25How to not become homeless.
Spend less than you make to create a financial safety net.
Have friends and family members you can count on to help you.
Don't become addicted to drugs or booze.Comment -

#35Lol this thread is funny. Go to Seattle guys you will see a shit load...and on most streets by the waterfront they are lined with tents, I mean lined with tents..we also have tent cities, large homeless tent villages....as well as a wooded area by the freeway that was called the jungle...why are homeless in the major cities? Most resources for food kitchens etc.....as well as the most important factor: plenty of the best cheapest drugs.... Mexican drug runners all over the city...most here and in Portland young kids from the suburbs strung out on heroin...hit the city develope crack problems, women prostitution, city eats them alive. 99 percent alcohol drug or extreme mental health issues who refuse health...other .1 percent in a actual shelter receiving warm meals and help. The others want to drink use heroin and smoke crack all night. Most I'll do is give them a few cigarettes. But I'm serious most I see age range 19-26 sad.Comment
