Been around plenty of middle class junkies in my life and watched them destroy themselves.
Seen awful parenting with them abusing/endangering/abandoning children, stealing from family, committing crimes or whoring out for drugs etc.
I've witnessed mind-boggling situations a crackhead is willing to put themselves in for a fix.

    Heres some tough love
    10 days isn't an accomplishment.

Admitting you're an addict isn't an accomplishment, you've known for like 10 years apparently.
When someone feels they have done something, they let up. It's the American way.
You can use a 20 point NBA lead in basketball as an example for all the degens here.
Or losing 20 pounds when you need to lose 50 for all the fat bastids.
The leads are blown in the blink of an eye, the weight can be gained back plus more eventually if you lose focus.
The problem with addicts is they want pats on the back and want to feel like they have done something, when they haven't done a thing.
And the programs IMO incorrectly are quick to give praise and make you feel like you've accomplished something.
I believe off-hand you have about a 10-15% chance to quit for good pretty much. I'd guess 99% of people who can go 10 days relapse.
I've seen junkies stuck in jail with no bail who can do 10 days with no problem.
Come back in a year instead of 10 days. A year will be an accomplishment. You'll be in a serious "potential success bracket" at that point.
Right now, all you've done is basically won a coin toss at the beginning of a sporting event.
So ask yourself, how impressive is it winning a coin toss at a football game? It's nothing.

Take care of your kid, do a great job being a dad, beat the odds, and pat yourself on the back 5 years from now

This post will be ridiculed, but its all full of cold hard truth

And the best tip I can give you is no matter you feel, NEVER stop going to meetings. EVER!

    Best of luck sir

Sorry, wrote all that and saw the post was made a month ago lol.
Coulda sworn I saw 10-12-16 as original date
Didn't read all 3 pages of comments, hopefully instead of 10 days, you've made it 38 days by now or whatever it is.

Perks was worse for me than Coke. One ends up needing more of them successively to maintain buzz. Withdrawel is a "nightmare on Elm Street". Abstinence is the way to go.

I've realized a 3 pt increase in my ATS record since clean.

        GL to all recovering addicts.

Goin to meeting before games start today.

Being clean is a good feeling, even though its marred by a losing streak.

GL to all addicts today in recovery and in NFL bettin.

Good on you. Meetings are important. I made it 25'ish days, and for a multitude of reasons I failed. Probably high up on the list is no support group or accountability.

I'm glad to know I tried and I don't regret failing. I'll get there.

I was told this years ago and it raps it all up. If someone isn't willing to do what it takes to quit they really don't want to quit no matter what they say. There is nothing anyone can say or do to help them. If somebody REALLY wants to quit then there is nothing anyone can say or do to stop them. I only sought help until I had hit rock bottom and was going to die. I really almost chose death. Without hitting the ultimate rock bottom, most addicts don't stand a chance.

OP, i am almost six years 100% sober. i am a reformed alcoholic .........

and it's funny that today is one of the few days in that time that i don't feel great and would love a drink. but i am NOT going to do. i know i'll feel much better tomorrow morning no matter how bad i feel today (and i know there's a specific physical reason i feel so bad today)

you have my thoughts and full support

Could this be the Kracken talking to the kids about the dangers of drugs?
