another side of the game...

.Community Adjusted Foal UpdateEarlier this week we caught up with Community Adjusted and her Quality Road filly. As the filly has grown, the farm has noticed that she’s wanting to toe in a bit in her front legs. This is no cause for panic, and is not out of the ordinary for young horses by any means. In an effort to straighten her out some, a blacksmith came out to the farm and applied Equilox to her feet. Equilox is an epoxy-like adhesive that is used to build extensions on the hooves to help straighten and correct the developing faults. The hope is that as they grow, the extensions will help correct the underlying faults without any other intervention. Your foal had them put on laterally in both front legs and her left hind. These extensions will typically stay on for four to six weeks. We will reevaluate once they are removed.

cool any questions hit me back. You need to have a free account to access the redboard room. They do have limitations on how much you can check out the data after the race is run.

Moonlit Courage breezed four furlongs in :49 flat from a hand opened gate at Santa Anita Park Tuesday morning. She worked under her usual breeze rider, Jessica Pyfer (pink cap), while in between stablemate Eastwick and How My Heart Works ’22. She broke well in between horses, but simply was not as quick as Eastwick and settled about two lengths back while inside of How My Heart Works ’22. In the turn, Jessica asked Moonlit Courage to pick up the pace, and she did it willingly to get on even terms with Eastwick. Note that because of where the gate is positioned in the mornings, the breeze itself ended on the turn and in the stretch that was gallop out.

Straight No Chaser had his first day back on the track this morning following Monday’s breeze and couldn’t be doing any better. He ended up only jogging this morning over the training track and will gallop tomorrow over the main track.

Enjoy as Joe Moran, Head of Bloodstock and Racing who is onsite in Riyadh provides another video update as well as a check-in with trainer Dan Blacker and his feedback on how today went.

Another thing that was nonexistent or in it's infancy back in the day. The next step forward in corrective shoeing.
Good stuff Batt.

The last step is breaking with the bell ringing. This is stuff you do during the learning process. Opening the doors by hand.

I can never get enough of going to the gate in the mornings. Would be on the list of things I miss about training.

Do you miss the smell of the turf, hot summer days at SAR stuff like that ?

Indeed Lester. I loved B12's quote above.

I never ran a horse at Saratoga. Why? Back then, it was a real haul to go there. I was not going to ship in for race day running from Md. I felt it was excessive especially in the heat of the summer. I did not really have a horse that would be rock solid in a race without running it over it's head as the quality of animal was simply better there. just as it is today. Meaning, a 50k claimer in Md. would need to run for 30k most likely and that did not seem like a good business decision to me. While the purses were higher there, nothing like what they are today.

I ran at Aqueduct and Belmont a couple of times but mainly stayed where I had the best chances of running real well.

Oh man, what do I miss? So many little things Lester. I hate to list some for fear of not listing others.

But the smell of ocean air at Monmouth.

The geese flying in every morning around 8AM to the Laurel pond.

Standing outside in the morning when it was single digits and the rider with a beard comes back from the gallop with icicles hanging off his beard.

Delaware Park softball league games at 6pm after the races. Teams like ours, The Reem Team( named after Harry Reems with the Rolling Stones Tongue on the front of the tee shirt.) We were young. Lol.

My help going out into the infield the morning after the Preakness and finding bags and bags of pot to smoke that was left behind before the cleanup crews showed up.

Talking to Russian , Japanese, German, Italian, etc. Trainers that were in Laurel for the DC International through their interpreter, in the mornings while training. That was surreal for me.
That race was a famous but now defunct race that the Breeders Cup replaced.

Most importantly, the people. All of them. I do miss that probably the most.

Great memories Lester. I'm a lucky guy.

Thanks for the question.

Tomorrow is the big day. Enjoy our last morning video update above where Straight No Chaser can be seen hitting the training track one last time before Saturday's big race. He is a picture of health and is giving the impression he is ready to fire a big effort.

We'll let him do the talking, but for reference the two spots he's looking most closely at are both on Mar. 22.

I mentioned the louisiana derby and also turfway's final leg is the same day ..these 2 really make sense to me from a timing standpoint relative to ky derby day and his last race .. also face somewhat lesser competition to boot but I feel the date is the key here

Saudi Cup day is almost upon us, and we can’t wait to see what Straight No Chaser can do on the International stage. He’s traveled great, trained excellently over the track and is the consensus horse to beat in the G2 Riyadh Dirt Sprint, which it was announced today is now also a "Win and You're In" qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Sprint.
Betting markets seem to put his chances at around even-money or slightly higher to take the winner’s share of this $2-million purse.
Defending champion Remake is the second-likeliest winner according to the odds and his off-the-pace running style could prove beneficial if things heat up in front, but he’s not in the same form he was heading into last year’s renewal.
The other main danger is Japanese 4-year-old filly Gabby’s Sister, who’s four-for-five on dirt and possesses relative upside as a lightly raced 4-year-old.
Jasper Krone figures to be Straight No Chaser’s main company on the lead, and the fact he’s drawn directly outside of us will make for some tactical maneuvering at the start, but in Johnny V. we trust.

Post time for the Riyadh Dirt Sprint is 9:00 a.m. ET/6:00 a.m. PT on Saturday morning.
There are a number of ways to watch the race: both FanduelTV and FS2 will have live coverage, it will be carried by most if not all U.S. ADWs and the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia should stream it on their YouTube channel as well. If you’re attending Saturday’s showcase in Ocala, Ocala Bets next door will be opening early at 8:30 a.m. specifically to accommodate us and give everyone a place to watch and root together.

Jasper Krone figures to be Straight No Chaser’s main company on the lead, and the fact he’s drawn directly outside of us will make for some tactical maneuvering at the start, but in Johnny V. we trust.
